Twenty-six students of the Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday bagged first class degrees, with Fagbohun Oyinkasola emerging the best graduating student.

This came as the university honoured three notable Nigerians. They are the Chairman Eleganza Group of Companies, Alhaji Razak Okoya; Executive Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer, Muslim Ummah of South-West, Nigeria, Prof. Dawud Noibi, and a retired Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Civil Service and Chairman of the university parents’ forum, Otunba Fatai Olukoga.

Oyinkasola, who studied Economics, obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.85.

She received the College Prize for Best Student in Economics, Vice-Chancellor’s Prize and a departmental prize.

The proprietor of the university, Prince Bola Ajibola, on the occasion, said the institution was committed to producing persons of worthy character and deep academic knowledge.

He said, “Our robust and pragmatic curriculum, which emphasises professionalism, entrepreneurship and global citizenship, has paid off for students who have passed through this institution.

“Personally, it gives me an enduring satisfaction that my belief in moulding better citizens who will ensure a greater country for themselves and for coming generations of Nigerians is not only possible and doable, it is already happening in my lifetime.”

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, also noted that the institution had recorded some landmark achievements in its 10 years of existence.

According to him, because of improved facilities and awareness, the university has witnessed corresponding increase in student enrolment.

He said, “We are happy to report that all our inception degree programmes in Accounting, Economics, Mass communication, Computer Science, Information and Communications Technology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Microbiology have full accreditation of the National Universities Commission.

“In June this year, we hosted visiting panels of the NUC to the departments of Business Administration, Political Science, Banking and Finance, Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning.

“We have just received confirmation that degree programmes in Business Administration and Political Science and International Relations have been awarded full accreditation, while the remaining programmes were awarded interim accreditation. This means the latter will be revisited in 2017.”

He advised the graduates to endeavour to be change agents in various disciplines.

“You may find yourself doing something different from what you have planned. Consider your degree as a life jacket. It will keep you afloat.

“Remember, the only permanency in life is change. I urge you to confront challenges that may come your way headlong. Success comes only to those who dare.”

Four hundred and thirty-five persons passed out on the occasion with 170 of them graduating second-class upper division, while 175 others obtained second-class lower division.
