Uterine fibroid also know as (MYOMA, uterine LEIOMYOMA) are benign tumors of the uterus.


SYMPTOMS

• Painful/ heavy periods

• Pain during sex

NB most women do not experience any symptoms.
A woman can have one or more uterine fibroid.
Fibroid may make it difficult to get pregnant.


CAUSES

The causes are not clear yet .

Fibroids run in families and can sometimes be determined by hormone levels.

Obesity and red meat can cause it.


DIAGNOSIS

Pelvic examination or medical imaging.


TREATMENT

• Gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist if administered may decrease the size of the fibroids but they have side effect.

• If the tumor is large - surgery is advisable.

Endometrial ablation e.t.c.
