THE 2 IDIOTS IN OUR POLITICAL SPHERE

For those familiar with Indian movies, the popular movie titled "3 IDIOTS" might quickly come back to your minds about this caption. It was an educating and career building movie but this piece is a slight departure from it.

According to Malcolm X, "you are not to be so blind with patriotism, that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it or says it". It is on this premise, we are saying that double standard has become a norm in our political space. In most cases, we dance to tunes that suit our course without minding our conscience.

In fact, today politics has fully accommodated different ethical rules that will do us more harms than good. It is disheartening that our nation is now pride by two groups of idiots with each group misleading innocent Nigerians at will.

Let us examine few instances to buttress our point.

When Tambuwal became Speaker through alliance with opposition, a group called it democracy while other got furious. But same group that called it democracy then was quick to tagged Saraki's emergence as Senate President as unholy alliance and disregard to party supremacy while other group tagged it democracy.

When GEJ was after Muritala Nyako, former Governor of Adamawa State, a group called it witch hunting and other group claimed it as a good note to fight corruption. But same group that was crying witch hunting is now claiming Sule Lamido's case is fight against corruption while other group remain vice versa.

When Fayose was given gubernatorial ticket in Ekiti, a group called it lack of moral decency that will promote corruption while the other side claimed until court prove him guilty. Surprisingly, same group advocating decency was glorious to hand over same ticket to two men blessed with corrupt cases.

When GEJ was after Saraki, same group that called it witch hunting is now the hunter of same prey.

When Oduah gate of N260m for 2 bullet proof jeeps was hovering, a group called for her head and other said court has not proved it. But same group shouting transparency then is now applauding N78m website builder and monorail sky builder as Ministers while other group is saying no.

When DSS invaded a party's database office under GEJ, a group condemned it and tagged DSS as a political tool while other group supported it as good work. However, same group that tagged DSS as a political tool is turning deaf ears to invasions of Akwa-Ibom State house and tribunals affairs by DSS.

These are just few of scenarios playing out in our political theatre room and it seems many Nigerians are yet to know who is fooling who. If we continue playing different ethical rules that suit our condition, our nation will remain on falsehood.

We hereby advise supporters of these groups, most especially their e-soldiers, to put this nation above self interest.

"Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies". Groucho Marx
