Exactly - pharmacists work and deal with drugs while physicians treat human beings. I reiterate, I prefer my medical advice from a medical doctor. If I need a drug recommendation, I will go to a pharmacist.

A pharmacist can also offer medical advice. You think pharmacy is only about drugs? Pharmacy encompasses both medical and pharmaceutical sciences. That is why pharmacy students are taught causes like anatomy, biochemistry, physiology and microbiology alongside main pharmaceutical sciences and even awarded doctors of pharmacy.

Or you think that the little knowledge of pharmacology a medical doctor has is enough to fully understand how different drugs interact with human body? Why do you think that in developed countries, even in many developing countries, pharmacists are made to spend 6 years in pharmacy schools (4 yrs of pharmaceutical sciences and 2 yrs of hospital pharmacy)? It is because they understand that the little knowledge ofppharmacology a doctor has is not enough to provide thorough medical care to patients. But we are in Nigeria where everything goes. Brb

And what in your myopic veiw do you think constitutes medical advice? Just because a medical student was taught pharmacology for 6 months does not make him a drug specialist unlike the pharmacist who undergoes rigorous training for 5 or 6 yrs. However, If a medical doctor is alowed to advice a patient on drugs, is that in your view still a medical advice? But that will not make a pharmacist to criticise him for offering such an advice even if the doctor is not aven a drug expert and same is applicable to a pharmacist. about 50% of hospital deaths in nigeria are drug related cases and who say drug related cases aren't medical cases?
My bruv, the standard of medical practice in Nigeria is still substandard. Until we acknowledge that the various health professions have areas of overlap and areas of expertise we shall never get it right!

Please don't get me wrong. I am NOT belittling pharmacists. Their work is equally important too. However, I don't not think that it is the role of a pharmacist to give medical advice. That is something a physician does. I understand the concepts of overlapping roles but in such a scenario, as this thread, I would still consider a physician over a pharmacist.
