Revealed! Why Fani-Kayode is being persecuted
, he refuses to be an EFCC witness

The on-going ordeal of a former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode may have to do with his refusal to serve as a principal witness against his predecessor in office, Dr Babalola Borishade.

Fani-Kayode who was the whistle-blower to the alleged N6.5billion safe tower project scams is currently on trial not for misappropriation of the N19.5billion Aviation intervention fund, as both the Senate and the EFCC investigators cleared him, but for alleged violation of money laundry. He was said to have lodged a total sum of N230m in his account while in office.

Interestingly, the said money was the total accumulated deposits made into the said account within a spate of two years and not that he was having the money in the same account.

Informed sources in the Presidency disclosed that the former spokesman to President Olusegun Obasanjo was paying for his blind loyalty to the former President, who has lost hold of power, and for his failure to be used in the on-going prosecution of his predecessor in office.

Hear him; “I pity the young man for what he is passing through because we all know he was never indicted by any panel that investigated the aviation fund. He was the one that even exposed the scam otherwise no one would have known the atrocity. But where he lost it was when he was said to have refused to be a witness against Borishade may be because the two are very close to President Obasanjo".

To buttress his point, our source brought out two copies of PUNCH NEWSPAPERS (editions of September 15, 2008 with a caption- Safe tower project: Borishade, Iyayi in fresh trouble. With a rider, Fani-Kayode may appear as EFCC witness (front page and page 7) and October 10, 2008, page 2 captioned “(EFCC) …drags Borishade, others to court’’.

In the September 15, 2008, the reporter, Tobi Soniyi stated inter alia; “The name of another former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, who was on July 2, 2008 arraigned before an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court with Borishade, Iyayi and Eder in connection with the N6.5bn Safe Tower Project, was missing from the charge sheet.

“Although Fani-Kayode is not on the list of witnesses in the proof of evidence attached to the charge, there were speculations that the EFCC had struck a deal with him, to use him as a witness.”

Then again on October 10, 2008, the paper while reporting on the arraignment of Borishade and others before an Abuja High Court, the same reporter, Tobi Soniyi stated among other things; “Another former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode , who was in July charged before an Abuja Magistrate’s Court alongside Borishade, Iyayi and Eder, was not in court on Thursday.

“The EFCC was silent on why he was not also arrested on Wednesday. There had been speculations that the anti-graft agency might have entered into a deal with him to serve as a prosecution witness”.

Apparently, it was when Fani-Kayode failed to accept the task of being a witness that led to his own arraignment. When a source was asked why he thought the EFCC came in with money laundry issue, he said; “only the EFCC could answer that question but we all know that the Senate Committee on Aviation did not find him culpable in the N6.5bn fraud and that was why nobody asked him to make any refund unlike Borishade and others who were asked to refund N5bn”.

The fact that the EFCC failed to correct the newspaper lends credibility to this theory going round in the country. But to some it was a payback time to the so-called Obasanjo boys who were in charge during the last era. The “boys” include the former EFCC chief, Nuhu Ribadu, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Nasir El-Rufai and a few others who are facing one prosecution or the other. To the Obasanjo camp, it is persecution but to the present government, it is prosecution. The Judiciary will decide who is right and wrong.

U are so naive. Dont u know that there is a presumption of innocence in law? Where is the evidence against the OBJ boys, including Fani-Kayode? Don't u know what is really going on in Nigeria and that it is all political? It is only in nigeria that people are counted as guilty just b'cos they have been accused by govt.

And b'cos most Nigerians are bitter and frustrated sadists they believe it. Just know that yaradua is the greatest evil that ever ruled Nigeria and that he is persecuting OBJ and his boys, including El Rufai, Ribadu and Fani-Kayode, b'cos they are the only ones that are truly clean and that can stand up to him and take him on.If OBJ himself was not a coward he would have come out publicly to complain about all this but he is too old and weak now and he knows that yaradua is paranoid and vindictive enough to put him in chains too.

Why do u think that the Americans would not even give Farida Waziri, the new efcc chairman, a visa to go to the U.S.? It is only in Nigeria that people are being fooled by yaradua's so called anti corruption war. He is just trying to kill Nigeria's brightest and best or to cower them into silence in order to cover up his own inadequeces and incompetence and his wifes stealing.

Shine ur eye, get real and grow up please.
