Few hours after suspected members of the Boko Haram sect struck at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, another bomb blast has occurred at a mosque in Yola, capital of Adamawa state. A witness, who identified himself as Umaru, said more than 100 people were rushed to the hospital after the incident, which occurred at the Jambutu area of Jimeta local government area of the state.

“A young boy attempted to get into the mosque when the explosive went off,” Umaru told NAN.

“It’s a new Friday mosque, this is the first Friday prayer to be offered in the mosque.

“Over 100 people have so far been evacuated to hospital but I can’t say how many among them are dead.”

But a source told TheCable that the bomb was planted inside the mosque.
“They planted the bomb inside the mosque and many lives were lost in the attack, because of the number of worshipers there,” the source said.

Haruna Furo, executive secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), said rescue effort was still going on but could not give figure of the dead or injured.

“We are now evacuating those affected to Yola Specialist Hospital and Federal Medical Centre,” he said.

The blast is the third to have occurred in Yola in the last six months.

The first happened near Yola central market followed by another at Malkohi IDPs camp.
