The election of the Bauchi State House of Assembly member representing Sade constituency, Hon. Baba Madugu in the State House of Assembly has been nullified.


The Election Tribunal sitting in Bauchi nullified the election of the member at its sitting on Tuesday.

Madugu contested the election under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last general election but his victory was challenged through a petition by Ibrahim Baba of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Delivering her judgment, chairperson of the Tribunal,Justice Hajara Tani Dami Gwadah said the evidence presented before the tribunal shows that the first respondent Baba Madugu was not duly elected or returned by the majority of lawful votes cast at the last general election for Sade constituency.

According to her, the petitioner scored 9,233 votes against the first respondent’s 7,354.

She said therefore that the petitioner is the winner of the said election and is entitle to certificate of return.

She added that judging by the results obtained from 3rd respondent’s forms EC8A and Forms EC8B respectively,‎the first petitioner ought to have been returned as the duly elected member into the State House of Assembly for Sade constituency.

Justice Dami Gwadah thereby ordered that INEC should withdraw the certificate of return issued to the first respondent and issue same to the petitioner, Ibrahim Baba who scored the majority of valid votes cast.
