Fibroids

Fibroids, also known as leiomyomas, are benign tumors originating from uterine tissue. They can vary greatly in size and number, and they are classified according to location: subserosal, submucosal, intramural, pedunculated, or combined.

Since fibroids are very common and most of the time they do not cause bothersome symptoms, they go undetected. However, some studies report leiomyomas in greater than 50% of women age 50 years.
