Buhari’s promise of minimum government, maximum governance will be successful and will cut down the expensive cost of governance, tho most opinionist and politicians have said that the undertaking was misplaced in the first instance and that a country like Nigeria big in size requires greater number of ministers,
Today, Most matured democracies are keen to having a smaller cabinet with minimal number of ministers. In the wake of his small cabinet Buhari had been accused of using the minimun cabinet as a ploy to discredit the terminally-ill last regime.
Some others said it was one matter to marginalise ministers and run the government with an iron fist with assistance from few political allies, but attempting to doing so at the Centre is a different ball game not in a diversified nation like ours. Buhari is a tough player and brooks no interference unto his goal of change and most of his ministers have also proved to be of equal mettle and will succeeded in inserting checks and balances.
For decades, we have had extraordinarily large governments while ironically the quality of governance has been quite poor. While Buhari mantain a small-size Cabinet, his government must be very efficient in protecting human life and property vis-a-vis the quality of the justice, the completion rate of cases by courts. The investigation quality by the police must be very impressive to have a maximum security in a minimum government.
In addition, the labour ministry have to become superior under him. Buhari will have to demonstrate that a good justice delivery mechanism and an entrepreneur-friendly environment is possible, even with a small and less intrusive government
and the Welfare of workers must be monitored closely by this government to ensure maximum governance, corruption must also be fought to a standstill.
The government must dedicate more resources and resuscitate the power sector completely. Accountability must be a must in this governance
for a maximum greatness.
