Nigerian born Dr. Benjamin Ola Akande pictured above made history on Saturday October 31st after he was installed as the 21st president of Westminster College in St. Louis, Missouri USA making him the first Black-American and first Nigerian-born academician to occupy the topmost position in the 165-year-old liberal arts college in America. The inaugural ceremonies which took place at Champ Auditorium before a standing-room-only audience had in attendance his parents, Rev. Dr. and Mrs. S.T. Ola Akande, his wife, Bola, their three daughters, Moyosola, Anjola and Reni Akande, and other family members. Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi was also in attendance and gave the inauguration lecture where he expressed his joy about the Nigerian academician making his country and Oyo state in particular proud. 1 Like 1 Share

Great...where is lalasticlala sef Additional stories: http://news.westminster-mo.edu/campus-life/change-is-in-the-air/ In his inaugural remarks, Akande, who formerly served as the dean of the George Herbert Walker School of Business and Technology at Webster University in St. Louis, hinted that change will be coming to Westminster College by challenging the status quo. Akande encouraged students, faculty, staff, and the Board of Trustees to be open to new ideas that are “bold and forward-looking,” to focus on what he called “next practices” instead of “best practices,” and to move beyond their comfort zones. "This is no easy task because ‘status quo’ has a large constituency,” he said. “Yet, we cannot let the chains of ‘status quo’ prevent us from fulfilling our future … to embrace a broad spectrum of possibilities and to create a truly exceptional place … one that doesn’t forsake the past, but builds on it.” Sai Buhari |

dustmalik: wholexy009: he is the 21st president... meaning he is NOT the first person to do so, he is the first "black/nigerian" person to do so... have you read and understood the text? I applaud his success but I am surprised given that Nigerians are the most educated immigrants in America that it is in 2015 that the first black person/Nigerian has come to hold such a position. |
