Matters Arising: Pa Fasoranti’s Resignation by akinsjerems: 11:44am On Nov 04, 2015
Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s resignation as the leader of the pan Yoruba socio-political group –Afenifere- came as a surprise to us, not because of any other reasons, but the fact that modalities and necessary structures were coming underway, to initiate the students’ league of the group. The planned initiation of the Students’ league of the Afenifere group was partly due to Baba Fasoranti’s progressive nature. This was evident in the reaction of Baba Fasoranti as soon as we presented the proposal for the Students league. He had accepted it, and in fact directed us to meet with Basorun Arogbofa.
It is pertinent to say that we have observed the deviation in the ideology of the Afenifere group (the basis for Baba Fasonranti’s resignation) and have however planned to address the issue by making it one of the missions of the students’ league of the pan Yoruba group.
To say the least, some of us have been in doubts for sometime as to the integrity of the group which we have known for years as the mouth piece of the Yoruba nation, having learnt that it consists mainly of elders of the Yoruba land, and was created in the interest of the Yoruba land. We have observed quite wearyingly, the politicization and the factionalization of the group among many other unfortunate developments.
It is on this note that the leadership of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF AKURE STUDENTS want to state that we believe Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s resignation is a well-calculated move, and is the right step in the right direction. As much as we also have the interest of the Yoruba land at heart, we support his move.
However, as long as our concerns about Afenifere stands unattended to, we shall continue to put the current leadership of Afenifere on their toes, as we are bent on restoring the sanctity of the revered afenifere group.
