Hi Nairalanders,
Can u tell me what 1000 naira can buy in Nigeria particularly Onitsha, Anambra State. To me I think nothing much to me with the exchange of currency. To me, it will cost a lot for me but nothing or next to nothing for him. I explain that to someone but he still wants me to send something, however small it is.

Thanks KMVBO I understand what you are saying but please, tell me what can 1000 naira buy "a small sweetie" a small bottle of coke?
I remember some one wanted some groceries in Ghana in the refugee camp. It cost me a fortune to post a very small pack of rice.

I think these people are giving you a run for your money. Refugee camp in Ghana? People in refugee camps don't have internet access!

Back to the question - N1000 can buy calling credit or a hot meal at a local bukka (restaurant)

In Onitsha,1000k can cook a pot of soup that might last for 1 wk(if hes single)
1000k can buy 5 bottles of beer plus cowtail peppersoup.
Recharge card.
A jeans/Top for bright street.
Yes ooo,1000k can buy one of those celtel phones that comes with sim card BUT its gonna be 2nd hand as the new ones is abt 1500k.
1000k can offset light and wtare bills(if hes single) or can fill his drum from borehole,get fuel for his generator for like 3 days.
1000k wud def. go along way for someone that have NOT touched 100N for like 3 days.

I see the value of 1000N from the list of things. It sure has some value, but not for big things. I can buy a microwave and an electric kettle for 1000 dollars.
