GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL WILL REVOLUTIONIZE A' IBOM POWER SECTOR- Dr . VICTOR UDOH

The Managing Director of Ibom Power Plant, IPP, Engr. Victor Udoh has assured that, Governor Udom Emmanuel has a clear blueprint for revolutionizing the power generation capacity of the state's independent power plant.
Addressing newsmen in his office, Dr Victor commended the Federal Government, for issuing Akwa Ibom Ibom Power Plant, license to generate additional 500 megawatts of electricity.
The amended license issued the Government of Akwa Ibom State, promoter of Ibom Power Plant, has now increased its generating capacity from 190 megawatts to 700 megawatts.
Engr Victor who was the Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Godswill Akpabio on Power revealed that, Governor Emmanuel had given the management of Ibom Power marching orders to reposition the company for the expected industrialization boom that is about to yield in the state.
He explained that, his three pronged programme of action in the place as directed by the governor includes, to stabilize the IPP, build capacity and instill good corporate governance.
The IPP Managing Director disclosed that, the company is on course to fulfil these goals as they have had 114 days of power generation without forced outage which shows a measure of stability in the system. He further added that, in capacity building, the company has a pool of interns, apprentices and succession plan for all category of staff and is capable of exporting expertise without feeling its shock or having any void.
On good corporate governance, Engr. Udoh argued that, as one with vast experience from corporate America where he practiced and with a governor who comes from a rich background of corporate governance, the company is being steered to become income generating, profitable and stop over dependence on government funding. He said, they have evolved a business plan that, employees understand, maintaining that, the goal is to move the state away from civil service and government to a private sector driven society and into corporate Nigeria.

While disclosing that, The Ibom Power Plant at present supplies 190mw to the national grid, Engr. Victor explained that, Governor Emmanuel received the license from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, on behalf of the state and the company’s management to kick start the second phase of the IPP, after the documentation required for licensing had been completed. He also disclosed that, the project is going to create job opportunities with a spiral effect as fencing the site has already started. Other jobs include geotechnical services, equipment procurement which Engr. Victor said are ongoing, stressing that, after the project is completed, IPP can export power and it will ensure a stream of income for the state which will retain a significant share in the company.
On the issue of gas to power the IPP's increased capacity, Engr. Victor insisted that, this is not a power plant that would have gas supply challenges. He reiterated Governor Emmanuel's. Declaration, that, "We have set up a gas processing plant that is supplying gas to the adjoining power plants. We would soon come for an embedded generation license that would supply power to our industrial estates to be established along the coastal line.”
He added his voice to that of the governor, in appealing to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, to improve its network, ahead of the completion of the expanded power plant so that the evacuation of power and subsequent distribution of same will be efficient and without hitches.
It will be recalled that, Governor Emmanuel disclosed that the state government had invested $22million on transmission networks and that it would be a wasted investment if there would be no corresponding investment in transmission line by TCN to evacuate the generated power.
Engr. Udoh expressed optimism that, the power purchase agreements made by the IPP with the Nigeria Bulk Electricity trading company is workable and will bid well for the company's future.
On the environmental impact of the anticipated expansion, Engr. Udoh dismissed any fears maintaining that,a comprehensive assessment of the environmental impact was done, an revealed that, the noise, vibration level and air pollution level are well within acceptable standards and isn't harmful to the society.
He therefore sued for support from the good people of Akwa Ibom state for Governor emmanuel, harping that, he came prepared for the top job of leading the state and has such a clear vision and blue print to industrialize Akwa Ibom and transform her vast coast line to the busiest industrial belt in the sub region
