You have not seen someone play, but you still went ahebelieve oubt the persons abilities. That is serious. May be because of your love for home grown talents right?

Now Sir, if you seriously want Nigerian grassroot football development to grow, it must not depend solely on the CAF AND FIFA U17 tournaments or age grade competitions.

Depending on FIFA age grade competitions a lone won't take us any where.

Why can't we encourage all our Clubs to buy into the idea of having age grade teams like the Europeans do. In England, all the Clubs do this and its yielding results for their Clubs.

So we should do same. If it works there then, It will also work here.

From where did you get the notion that I want our grassroots development to depend solely on U17 age grade tournaments? Where do you get that we depend on age grade teams alone? Did Enyeama come from age grade teams? What of Ikechukwu Uche or Efe Ambrose? Are they from our U17?

I said, as long as we lag behind in grassroots development compared to the Europeans, we should stick to using the U17 for grassroots development. It is so simple.

I have not seen any of the latest young stars emerging from Argentina. I doubt any is as good as Diego Maradona. I believe you do not want me to say that until I watch every Argentine youngster.

I repeat, I doubt he is as good as Ajiboye and Akpan Bassey in their U17 days.

If we could raise the likes of Ajiboye, Akpan Bassey, Alampasu from our grassroots, we can find more without looking out for European trainees.

Alaba and Adebayor came to audition for under 17 but we rejected them for 'grassroots' players, some of whom were old men.

Which Nigerian left back in our history is as good as Alaba?
How many strikers have we had that were as good as Adebayor at his prime?, you can count them on one hand.

If we see exceptional talent, we should get them, home or abroad.

You people only see Alaba. You will not see Iheanacho, Success, Alampasu, Omeruo, Onazi who were local talents who benefited from the grassroots development of the U17.

The foreign born Nigerians who want to play for us, should fight for their places in the U20. The U17 is for grassroots development.

We should give opportunities to exceptional young players who want to play for us so we do not lose them when they are older.

So how many Nigerian trainees overseas have reached Alaba's level?

The exceptional young players who want to play for us should do so in the U20 level. The U17 is for grooming local talents.

It is a good grassroots program and bringing in a foreign trainee takes away the chance of grooming a local grassroots talent with less opportunity.

No problem with grassroots but if there is a Nigerian Messi or even Alaba, get them at under 17. Get them as early as possible.

If Nigeria gave Alaba a shot when he came, perhaps he would be playing for us now not Austria.

Nigeria Target Kelvin Arase Shines As Austria Beat Bosnia In UEFA U17 Championship
Published: May 05, 2016

Nigerian-born striker Kelvin Arase helped the Austria U17s beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in both countries first Group B match at the UEFA U17 Championship taking place in Azerbaijan.

The 17-year-old was lively throughout the contest at Bakcell Arena (Bakı) and was unlucky not to open his goalscoring account for his adopted country.

Austria controlled the game from the beginning and were rewarded for their efforts in the first half, with Baumgartner netting a brace.

Retired Nigeria international Benedict Akwuegbu earlier stated that he will approach Arase’s parents so the youngster commits his international future to Nigeria instead of Austria but it appears it turned out to be a wild-goose chase.

Arase, who is on the books of the U18 team of Rapid Vienna, appeared 6 times for the Austria U17s in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship (Qualifying round) and was credited with two assists.

German-based trio David Alaba (Bayern Munich), Rubin Okotie (1860 Munich) and Karim Onisiwo (Mainz 05) have represented Austria at senior level.

Argentina played in the 2003 U17 and they did not invite the most promising under 17 player in the World, Lionel Messi. That was not enough reason for Messi to dump Argentina for Spain.

If the player wants to play for the team, you do not need to play him at the U17. Iwobi proved it. It is either they want to play for us or not.

The U17 grassroots development program has succeeded and changing a winning system is ridiculous.

If we gave Alaba a shot, perhaps he would have played for us or he would not play for us. There was no way he would not get a call up from the Super Eagles and he did not wait.

We need those who only want to play for us.

All you are saying are simply your own perspective. There is nowhere in the NFF constitution that exceptional foreign starlets in the age bracket should not be invited. I already gave you an example of Habib who was in Chelsea when he was invited to Manu's squad.

What we need to do is do more of it. I cannot have a child abroad and you will tell me he is not as Nigerian as another Nigerian. You be Lord Lugard?

Bros I am 99.9999999999% with you on this one.

Our U17 system has won us 5gold and 3silver medals .No Bronze grin. Meaning we have won 8/8 of our semi final matches
We have participated in 10 editions and have played the Final 8times!
In the last 5 Editions we have played in 4 Finals
We have played in the Final in all the last 4 times we have participated.
We have won 3 out of the last 5 editions
We have won 3 out of the last 4 editions we have participated in
A Nigerian player holds the record for the highest goal scorer
The 2013 Team holds the record for the highest goals scored by a Team.
We were the winners of the First and Last edition grin

This is the most successful U17 system in the World!

The system that produced the likes of Victor Ikpeba, Nwankwo Kanu, Celestine Babayaro, John Mikel Obi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Nwakali. From generation to Generation. From 1985 to 2015. We are still the best at U17 level.

I am not saying foreign born players should never be included but I can tell you that most of them will not make it through the rigorous screening. We dnt miss them.

It may not be in the NFF constitution but the current system is very convenient for the NFF and the technical Crews and our results so far show for much.

Barcelona Keeping Tab On Nigerian Starlet

Highly rated Nigerian starlet, Lateef Omidiji Jr. is being monitored by football scouts around Europe and FC Barcelona isn’t left out, it has been gathered.

Omidiji Jr. currently plays for the U-14 team of the Netherlands second division side, Dordrecht FC. According to Lateef Omidiji Snr, the 12-year-old’s father, numerous scouts have shown interest in the boy and are watching him closely for when he comes of age.

“A lot of club scouts have been showing interest in Lateef,” Omidiji Snr. told soccernet.com.ng “I spoke with an F.C Barcelona scout this morning, and he said they are interested in my son.” ?

The lad is well known in Academy football around the Schengen area for his speed, technical skills and finishing prowess. Apart from club sides, the USA and Nigeria have shown interest in the young striker, being an American by birth and Nigerian by descent.

However, according to Omidiji Jr’s father, the US Soccer has been more active in trying to get the youngster than Nigeria. - See more at: http://independentnig.com/barcelona-keeping-tab-on-nigerian-starlet/#sthash.QS2FcfHW.dpuf

Two Players Of Nigerian Descent Feature As England Beat France In U17 Euro

The England U17s got their 2016 UEFA European Under-17 Championship campaign back on track on Monday evening after beating defending champs France 2-0 .

Fulham starlet Dennis Adeniran was handed his first start while Tolaji Bola, who got injured in the first half against Sweden, and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Samuel Shashoua started on the bench.

The Young Lions went in front in the 15th minute courtesy of Ben Morris, who tapped in from close range after the ball was rolled across the face of goal by Dozzell.

Two minutes before the intermission, England doubled the advantage thanks to Reiss Nelson who confidently dispatched a spot kick to take his tally to 8 goals in the competition, including the qualifying rounds.

Adeniran played the full ninety minutes while Shashoua was introduced ten minutes from time.

Adeniran, Shashoua Feature As England Are Knocked Out Of U17 Euro

The England U17s were knocked out of the UEFA European U17 Championship on Sunday at the quarterfinal stage after losing 1-0 to Spain at the Bakcell Arena, Baku.

Head coach Steve Cooper named Fulham midfielder Dennis Adeniran in the starting line-up while the two remaining players of Nigerian descent Tolaji Bola (Arsenal) and Samuel Shashoua (Tottenham Hotspur) were on the bench.

England dominated the second half but had no answer to Francisco García’s brilliant individual goal in the 11th minute.

With 67 minutes gone, Shashoua replaced Dennis Adeniran and the Spurs attacking midfielder did not come close to scoring before the final whistle was blown.

The Young Lions had beaten France and Denmark in the group stage after losing to Sweden in their opening game.

Nigeria to try to convince Sheyi Ojo, others to play for Eagles
Biyi Akangbe

A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has hinted that the Football House has set its sight on getting the trio of Dominic Solanke (Chelsea), Sheyi Ojo (Liverpool) and Ademola Lookman (Charlton Athletic) play for the Super Eagles.

The three players are all 18 years old and all but Lookman have represented England at under age levels and a source in the NFF told Nation Sport that some persons in the Glasshouse depending on the availability of funds will soon be embarking on tour of some England and Holland to woo eligible Nigerians to represent their place of origin.

The source specifically disclosed that after the success story of Alex Iwobi who now plays for the Eagles after the intervention of the NFF, the mentioned trio alongside Chuba Akpom(Arsenal) and a 12-year-old Lateef Omidiji Jr (FC Dordrecht U-14) who is said could spark a bidding war between Nigeria and the USA are all closely being monitored.

Nation Sport gathered that the NFF scouts will strive to make these players commit their allegiance to Nigeria and not follow the trend some of their compatriots took in the past only to be used and dumped by their preferred foreign countries.

Ojo is now an established Liverpool winger and Solanke is also being closely monitored by Chelsea in Vitesse Arnhem (Holland) where is presently on loan after he emerged as Chelsea Youth Player of the Year in 2015 while Lookman is also trying his best as a striker with Charlton Athletic and he is rumoured to be on the radar of Arsenal FC.

Nigeria Lagging Behind England For Services Of Highly-Rated Arsenal Goalie Arthur

The English FA is ahead of the Nigeria Football Federation for the services of highly-rated Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.

The Gunners U15s netminder has made remarkable progress at Arsenal since he joined the club and is on the brink of earning a promotion to the U18s after he made the squad for their 4-1 win over Sunderland U18s last Friday.

Arthur Okonkwo has been described by one of his peers, who keeps goal for a rival London team, as a goalkeeper with good reflexes and has tipped him to make the grade at Arsenal.

“He is a good goalkeeper, good overall. He is good in shot-stopping and distribution, I have played against him,” the source told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“For his age, he is tall for a goalkeeper. England are ahead of Nigeria now for his services.”

Arthur Okonkwo has played for England at U15 level.

Nigeria Golden Eaglets camp now opens May 28

The Nigeria Golden Eaglets training camp earlier fixed to open on May 8 will now begin on May 28 also in Abuja.

AfricanFootball.com understands that the cash crunch facing the Nigeria Football federation (NFF) was the cause for the delay in opening the training camp.

The camp will involve an open screening exercise of eligible players with strong indications coach Manu Garba has also selected a set of youngsters from various scouting missions across the country recently.

The reigning U17 world champions are due to begin the qualifiers for the 2017 U17 AFCON in August against Niger.

Nigeria have won the FIFA U17 World Cup a record five times – in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015.

U-17 Screening: The search for Nigeria's future football stars has begun

Former Nigerian U-17 star, Kelechi Iheanacho (Photo: Getty).

Nigeria’s 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning coach Manu Garba (OON) will on Monday begin full screening of new players at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project in Abuja, as he prepare to put together another world–conquering squad that will start with qualification for next year’s Africa U-17 Cup of Nations to be hosted in Madagascar.

The Golden Eaglets’ are the current world champions after a team led by Emmanuel Amuneke (MFR) won a record fifth title for the country in Chile last year, and Garba noted all hands must now be on deck with the team’s qualifier against neighbouring Niger fast approaching.

Garba told thenff.com that the open screening would last for three weeks starting with a list of 40 invited players scouted across the country, even as he called on ambitious and confident players within the stipulated age bracket to avail themselves of the opportunity.

“We don’t have much time to waste and we are going to use just three weeks for open screening in order to have a close look at the 40 invited players,” stated Garba.”It will also be an opportunity for us to see others since many uninvited players may also turn up, based on our previous experience.”

Meanwhile, officials have warned that players coming for the screening exercise would as a matter of fact, take care of their personal welfare in terms of accommodation and feeding. They are advised to turn up with their playing kits as well as official documents to proof they are within the stipulated age bracket for the competition.

The Golden Eaglets would be away to Niger Republic on the first weekend of August, with the reverse fixture a fortnight later. The final tournament of the U-17 AFCON will be held from 2nd– 16th April 2017 in Madagascar.

Man City Striker Iheanacho Urges Omidiji Jr To Choose Nigeria Ahead Of USA, Holland

Kelechi Iheanacho (C) and Lateef Omidiji Jnr (R).

Manchester City wonderkid Kelechi Iheanacho has urged FC Dordrecht sensation Lateef Omidiji Jr to commit his international future to Nigeria ahead of the United States, where he was born, and country of residence Netherlands.

Lateef Omidiji Jr and his family made the 160-mile journey from Dordrecht to Luxembourg City earlier this week to offer their support and fraternize with the Super Eagles stars before the international friendly with the European minnows.

“Kelechi told him that Lateef Jr is known all over England and he thinks if he keeps it up, he has the skillset to follow in his footsteps but that comes with playing for Nigeria,” the striker’s dad Lateef Omidiji Sr told allnigeriasoccer.com .

“He said a lot of the officials in the NFF are aware of him as well and he’s heard nothing but great things.

“He also spoke with Troost-Ekong who used to play at Jr’s current academy- very encouraging- said keep doing what you’re doing, the sky is the limit. ”

Lateef Omidiji Jr’s elder sister Sophia Omotola Omidiji has already pledged her allegiance to Nigeria and her ambition is to represent the Falconets at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.

It is known that the United States Soccer Federation are interested in capping Lateef Omidiji Jr before the Nigerian Federation, and plan to invite him to one of their youth teams in the not too distant future.

American-Born Whizkid Omidiji Commits International Future To Nigeria Ahead Of USA

The Nigeria Football Federation have been sounded out about the availability of FC Dordrecht striker Lateef Omidiji Jr.

Born in the United States 12 years ago to a Nigerian father and an American mom, the young star is on the radar of the United States Soccer Federation but the NFF have moved fast to open talks with his dad regarding the player pledging his international future to Nigeria.

However, the fact is that the United States have an Under-14 Boys’ National Team who regularly hold training camps and play international friendlies against other countries and they are not out of the race to cap Lateef Omidiji in the nearest future.

“Yes we discussed his international future and talking to the officials, his mom and I believe that playing for Nigeria is the best route for Lateef Jr as the Pinnick led NFF are very committed to youth development in Nigeria as demonstrated with the Zenith Bank Future Eagles contest and their words were very encouraging,” Lateef Omidiji Sr told allnigeriasoccer.com .

“They have things in the works that will be the foundation for the growth of Nigeria football like they did in Germany where they revamped their entire system.
“I am encouraged by their plans and we are looking forward to working with them.”

Last week, Lateef Omidiji Jr put himself in the shop window once again, notching 7 goals (3 assists), including his strike against Queens Park Rangers at a tournament.

“He even had a discussion with QPR’s U14 coach who could not believe that he was not already on his country’s National team as he was easily the best player on the pitch, ” added the striker’ dad.

Lateef Omidiji Jr visited the Super Eagles before the international friendly against Luxembourg and the players, including Kelechi Iheanacho and William Troost-Ekong, encouraged him to choose Nigeria over USA.
