The police in Lagos yesterday paraded six suspected kidnappers, who allegedly abducted a one-year-old boy.

A fake property developer, who collected N5.8 million from 32 people for 15 apartments, was also paraded.

The alleged kidnappers were said to have demanded a N10 million ransom for the release of their victim.

Among the kidnap suspects are a 16-year- old girl in whose custody the boy was kept; an undergraduate of Business Administration from the Abia State University, Uturu, and a pastor in one of the new generation churches.

The prime suspect, Ikenna Uzo, a 24-year-old apprentice, said he needed money for the recording of his musical video album and since nobody was willing to sponsor him, he decided to go into crime.

He said their victim is the son of his neighbour at Trade Fair International Market where he is an apprentice in a bureau de change.

Narrating how the crime was carried out, Uzo told The Nation that the boy walked into his office last Thursday, and immediately he came in, he told his master’s son, Chimezie Eze, a 100-level undergraduate student, to assist him take the boy away.

He said the abducted boy was kept in an hotel in Olodi-Apapa.

The next day, he called the pastor and told him about the baby.

Uzo said he gave the pastor the boy’s mother’s phone number and directed him to demand N1 million since he (Uzo) would need only N250, 000 for the album recording.

The pastor called the boy’s parents and demanded a N10 million ransom, threatening to kill the boy if the money was not paid.

It was learnt that the boy’s parents suspected Uzo’s involvement and subsequently informed the police who arrested him.

At the station, Uzo confessed to the crime and also named his accomplices.

The property developer, Abiodun Atanda, allegedly collected money from unsuspecting house seekers for a yet-to-be completed building and escaped with the money.

He was arrested by the police, following information from some of his victims.

Police spokesman Frank Mba said the cases are being investigated, adding that the suspects will soon be charged to court.

We do not have hitech investigative tools, DNA analyses, lie detection test, CSI etc, but we do have unsung Policemen who understand torture and its many benefits when technically applied.

This tool is time tested and has proven very useful once again-even though it was conveniently left out in the report we can see the result.
