If you know that you want to share the internet connection on your Laptop with your Desktop (peer-to-peer connection), make sure that the two systems have LAN Port (Ethernet Port). Then, you can go to the market, like computer village to buy Cross Over Cable (if you know that you can't make the cable by yourself). Connect one end of the cable to your laptop. Then, connect the other end of the Cross Over Cable to your desktop system. NOTE: Your LAN port should indicate green light (both on your laptop and on your desktop system immediately you connect the cable to your two systems), to notify you that the Cross Over Cable you are using is O.K. I assumed your two systems are running winXP. Go to your system that have internet configured on it and perform the following steps: 1. Double-click on My Network place from the desktop. 2. Click on Set up home or small office network on your left hand side from the dialog box that appear. 3. Please, follow the instruction on the screen to complete the process. But, there will be a screen that will appear if you are following these steps (on the computer that you have your internet configured) that will ask you to select your internet connection, please, select that internet that has been configured on your system already and continue the procedures. But note that this screen will not appear if you are following these steps on your second system that you do not have internet configure on it. Also make sure that you give different "Computer Name" and different "Computer Desciption" while you are following these steps. Please, Additional Note:If you like, you can also go to "My Computer Properties" to asign WORKGROUP of your choice to those two systems by following below steps: 1. Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties. 2. Click on Computer Name Tab from the dialog box that appear. 3. Click on Change. 4. Go to workgroup Box and type any name of you own there. But make sure that the name you type in workgroup Box of your Laptop is also the same with that one that you type on your desktop system. With this little steps, I believed that your second system should be able to access the net. But if you neen more help on this, feel free to post your help. Good Luck. |
