As the U-17 Football team , Golden Eaglets have once again brought back the cup home as they won the U-17 FIFA world cup against Mali on November 08 2015.

In the victory and celebration of this great historical Victory , Here are 8 amazing FACTS you should know about the Golden Eaglets.

9 FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLETS


1. Golden Eaglets have won The FIFA World cup 5 times now which has made a ground-breaking record since the tournament was launched in 1985

2. Nigeria has the all-time record of playing in the highest number of finals. These are 1985, 1987, 1993, 2001, 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2015. Out of these 8 final matches, the country won 5 and lost 3 of them.

3. China 1985, Japan 1993, Korea Republic 2007 and UAE 2013. In addition, they finished as runners-up at Canada 1987, Trinidad and Tobago 2001 and Nigeria 2009.

4.The 2015 edition’s final was the second all Africa final after Nigeria beat Ghana in Japan 1993.

5. The Nwakali brothers,Chidiebere and Kelechi Nwakali have set a historical record as in 2013 , Chidiebere had a prominet impact on the team and now his younger brother, Kelechi also did so captaining the golden eaglets to victory in 2015.

6. All coaches who have lead the team to winning the FIFA tornament are all Nigerians.

1985 – Sebastian Imasuen Bodericks made history by winning the maiden edition.

1993 – Coach Fanny Amun tutored his boys to success.

2007 – late Yemi Tella won the event despite his ill health.

2013 – Manu Garba led Nigeria to victory

2015 – Emmanuel Amuneke made record in time of history in just concluded edition

7. The Nigerian team has also experienced its share of defeat as they lost the final in 1987 to Russia, 2001 to France, and 2009 to Switzerland.
