Here is a list of unbelievable or sometimes ridiculous things people do to make money in Lagos. If you are not a Lagosian, then you might find these things strange but then, it's just another money making venture for the man on the streets.

Mobile car wash.

This hasn't always been the phenomenon in Lagos but the last ten years has seen the rise of young people armed with a cleaner and liquid soap pouncing on people cars in traffic.
They earn from 50 to 100 Naira per wash which usually takes a few minutes. Viola! Your wind shield is squeaky clean again.

These guys sometimes make up to 5,000 Naira on a good business day.

Not bad if I may say.

Money Changers.
If you attend a party in Lagos, it's common place to see women handle wads and bundles of cash. The common denomination is the 100 Naira notes because it's the favourite for people who love to spray money.

Spraying might sound strange to you but it's part of Nigerian culture to give cash to the celebrant and the dance floor. They also shower love to shower lots of cash on the band's praise singer.

The money changers do brisk business by charging up to 20% of the total value of money exchanged.

Car park attendant.
Next time you're taking your fancy car to an event in Lagos, just make sure you keep some change for the guys at the car park.
The consequences of you not leaving something for these guys can be severe. Oh you guessed right! You'll prized wonder on wheels could be smashed and your valuable items would be missing.
The car itself could even disappear and I'm not joking because Lagosians witness things like this often.

The Human Statue.
Of all the jobs on my list, this takes the cake.
You see a painted up dude standing motionless in the blistering sun and you can't help but wonder how much he's being paid to do that lol!
You just have to give it up for the Nigerian creativity.

Commercial bus touts.
These guys are the bane of commercial bus drivers. The stay lurking at every bus stop sometimes in connivance with the police. They pounce on the bus conductor and extort money from him once his bus parks for a passenger to alight or a commuter to board the bus.
