It has become a trending news of late concerning the issue of compulsory payment for laptop imposed on the fresh students. Following the directives of the VC this new session, every new student was required to pay a sum of 70, 000 naira for a laptop which would be given him/her and was required to present the receipt before he could be allowed to do clearance. The implication of this was that anyone who was unable to comply in this manner was likely going to miss his/her admission. This however did not go well with anybody especially the new students and as a result, only a handful of students was reportedly cleared after two whole weeks of resumption. The displeased students in a bid to salvage the situations began online protests and even talked of staging a physical peaceful protest. To this effect, the school authority was brought to a tete a tete with the Students Union Government. An agreement was reached after that the laptop fee was still compulsory but the students have the choice to pay instalmentally in a format of 25, 000 for three years or 45 000 and 30,000 for two years or to simply pay 70, 000 once and for all and each case, the laptop will still be given.
We understand that the VC really mean well for the students but the means and the condition of our society is the only hinges facing this well meant thoughts. Parents are therefore advised to send their wards to school immediately start their clearance.
