I attend one of the biggest church around maryland (Lagos) and I can say that my church is very nice, fully air-conditioned and well packaged, with men and women of class scattered all over

Last 2 Sundays I overheard when 2 men (church workers) pointing to a youth, that this is making it the third time she is gaining admission into the university buh no sponsor! On hearing that, I was like wow, no sponsor in this kinda church when almost everybody are living a comfortable life with excess. I was forced to ask the man, that why can't the church do something about it buh he said the church have too many people on their welfare list already.

As we were about to close then our pastor raise a special offering of 100k, I was shocked once again wen more than 500 people came out. I went home and I started thinking, there are a lot of individuals who need this money but are not gettn it while people pay huge tithe and special offering in church jst to show off.

My tithe is due for sunday (I av been a faithful tither is I started working) so I was just think, that somebody out there might be in die need of this money. I am planing to save up my tithe in a particular acct accumulatively and then use it at the endd of every year to help one or 2 persons in need cos I Believe there are so many in need in our society.

Pls Nlanders am I going to do the right by doing that or its not biblical?

listen the truth about the tithe is:as christian you are not asked to pay such a thing! you are asked to give with joy what you think that you can afford; some of the christian are so poor that they need to be helped, not asked to bring money and things to the church. the tithe was never asked to be paid in money, but in things and the Jews were asked to bring it to the Temple. just for you as fact: since the temple from Jerusalem was destroyed the Jews are not paying anymore the tithe; if you speak with any Jewish rabbi , he will tell you that is even sinful for Jews to pay such a thing as the instruction as given for the temple; so no Temple, no tithe. so let's resume: you are not Jew, there is no temple and in the New Testament, the Christians are not asked to pay such a thing!....so why someone should pay the tithe?

There are always competing needs for our limited resources. There is somebody who has just died because they could not raise a fraction of that kid's fee needed for a simple operation or medication.

The point is, the moment you stop supporting your church for a 'more urgent' cause, that is a snare to numb your giving. One way to look at it is to consider giving to church and charity as not being mutually exclusive.

My simple counsel is, if you are totally sold to the idea of tithing, then keep on at it. There are enough threads on NL on arguments for and against tithing and for me, I see it as a GOOD tradition that is often abused and made into a command and on which believers are blackmailed. Should you conclude that tithing is a scam/fraud, then support the man. In all these, you must have a conscience that is already pointing you in a particular direction. Prayerfully follow it.

You are on the right path, there is not one single verse asking christians to tithe in the new testament but there are several that asks us to help those in need.

Op God is touching your heart to see things the way he sees it without the veil of religion covering your eyes. That poor boy you mentioned is a typical example of the example that Jesus gave about bearing one another burden and its quite unfortunate that our churches today will rather put marbles on already painted walls than support a less privileged in dire need of assistance. Tithing is a good thing if one understands the basis of it. If God is laying it in your heart, your tithing from now on could be to that boy and yes, you will still be doing the right thing and God will still love you, whether you pay your tithe in the first place or not. Many Christians today see tithe as just paying God off for the month and giving him his own share or your budget, probably because he may go broke if you don't, and i tell you, it profits those kinda people nothing. Tithing is meant to be willful and out of loving and grateful heart towards God and it could take various forms. If you are among those that think that your tithe triggers God to bless you, you are still living under the law. No one buys Gods blessings with money.

Bros, do you know what faith is? Im a christian and a practical one at that, christianity is not the sort of religion where only a microscopic few can read the holy book, we all have assess to it. Why do we allow manipulative pastors which the bible clearly spoke about get the best of our mental strenght?

Look around you, Pastors live controversial lifestyles which can be traceable to their greed for money. Think about this deeply.

To your post now, bros its your faith at work here. Your faith holds it that your financial liberty is tied to your tithing, i know of many people who dont believe in tithe and are not lacking financially. Its about what you believe.

Let me ask you a few questions about tithe

Did the bible requested money for tithe?

Are we old or new testament christians? If we are old testament christians, shouldnt we practice circumcision, divorce, kill our enermies, pay tithe, kill turtles when we commit adultery, use blood for restitution, among others? These are old testament practices

Didnt the bible say ONLY the Levites should collect the peoples' tithes, isnt it fraudulent for a Nigerian to call himself a levite?

If we are new testament christians, didnt the bible say we are free from the laws, isnt Jesus' blood the restitution for our sins? Pastors preach these things but will detach tithe from the above list.

If tithe is of such importance will Jesus not have emphasized it, since he told and taught us how to live? In fact, the only place Jesus mention tithe, he refered to it as a religious ritual/activity which people do negleting more important things. If tithe is that important, Apostle Paul who publiised christianity this much would have mentioned it, he never did not even ones. Instead, he emphasized giving to the poor and needy.

Op, u can still pay your tithe and be a sponsor if you are financially buoyant. For no reason must you stop paying your tithe.

Brethren, this is the revelation of our lessons. Up till now many people do not know what this kingdom is all about. This is to reveal to you the greatest obstacle that can prevent you from entering the kingdom of God. The word of God says, that if the Gentiles have come to share in the spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service with their material riches. Therefore, you are debtors.

Abraham paid his tithe before he was blessed. But today you in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, 99% of you today do not pay your tithe. You all claim to see God face to face, and that God is in your midst. If you forsake falsehood, fornication, drinking wine, and you preach the word of God to all nations but you do not pay your tithe to God, you cannot enter into the kingdom of God. You may put up a storey building for God, buy God a new car, spread all your belongings to the poor but if you do not pay your tithe, you have no share in the kingdom of God, for just as tax is important to the government, so it tithe to God. And as electricity bills are important to the Nepa, so is tithe payment to God.

A person that has electric lights in his house does not need a lamp, or a lantern or matches, even kerosene. When he needs light, it is always at his reach. It is a matter of switching here and there and the house is brightened. But if for one month, you fail to pay your bills, the lights will be cut off. It is exactly the same way with any of you who has been baptized into Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, and you have received the Holy Spirit but you fail to pay your tithe, you will be disconnected from the spiritual power house.

When you pay your tithe, the Holy Spirit will flow freely in you. It will heal your sickness, cast all unclean things from you, and will solve your problems. You cannot enter this kingdom through riches but by faith. And what is this faith? It is the payment of tithe on all your possessions. Since you are God's children, when you pay tithe to Him, He adds more to you. If you say that God, his Christ and the Holy Spirit is here on earth, pay your tithe.

For instance, in this Pentecostal Hall, we enjoy the electric fans, the sound system and all the electric lights, but if we are disconnected by the Nepa Electric Company, because of our failure to pay their bills, we shall not enjoy these amenities any longer. Therefore, if you want God to give you the Holy Spirit, you must pay your tithe. It is only then that you will enjoy the love of God and His patience, power, prosperity and salvation to yourselves. All those who do not pay their tithes to God do not believe in God and they are cursed people. May we listen to the reading of the First Bible Lesson:

The orthodox Churches do not pay tithe, likewise Societies of Occultism. These do not know the value of tithe.

If you in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star fail to pay your tithes, where is the difference between you and the others?
Brethren, for this reason, Christ said, it will be difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. If you have automobiles, you must purchase licenses for them, likewise for your bicycles, motor cycles. In addition, you must pay your tithe in all that you have, whether farms, beast of burdens, vehicles and buildings, even on your children. If you do not pay tithe on all that you possess, you are cheating God. Any person who does not pay his tithe has not seen God, he is not of God.
The tithe box is before God always. This is the ark of covenant. Whatever you want will be given you from there. There is peace, health, promotion, scholarship, wealth, and all good things that you wish for yourself. It all depends on your payment of your tithe. Think of it for a moment. Brethren, God gives you ten things and He demands only one of the ten but you refuse to give Him. Have you not cheated God? Are you not lying if you say that you do not have even that one to give Him? Your payment of free will offerings, charitable offerings are all different aspects entirely, but the payment of tithe is the key to success in everything.

SECOND BIBLE LESSON: ROMANS 13:7

Brethren do you see what is before you now? You do pay your taxes, revenue and house rent, therefore you must pay tithe to whom tithe is due, and that is TO GOD. For instance, if you are blessed by God to purchase a car, you must obtain all particulars for that car. You will engage a driver whom you will be paying monthly. In addition, you may also have a mechanic and a night watchman. You will also pay for the shed to park the car. All these payments are done on behalf of the new car. What of your tithe to God who blessed you to purchase that car? Pay all of them.

Brethren, you are not compelled to pay this tithe, because God is not interested in your car or money. But if you refuse to pay your tithe to Him automatically you have refused to have a share in the kingdom of God. If you wish to remain in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star and enjoy the full benefit therein and to realise the glory of God, then, pay your tithe.
For a trial, go to the Roman Catholic Church and pay your tithe this month and see; and then the following month come to Brotherhood of the Cross and Star and pay your tithe, you will see the difference immediately between other Churches and Brotherhood. Because it is only here that the Holy Spirit operates, and it is only from that you will derive abundant blessings for paying your tithe.
Verily, I say unto you, all those who do not pay their tithe are under a curse, but those who pay tithe are under grace and blessing. Do not worry yourselves to fast and to do this or that in order to achieve your needs, the payment of tithe is key.
There are living testimonies of those who have tasted this joy by paying tithe.

Take the case of Cain and Abel. God required both of them to make a sacrifice to Him. Cain being a farmer brought bad produce from his farm and sacrificed to God and this sacrifice was not accepted. But Abel, a shepherd lad, took out the best of his young bulls and sacrificed to God and this was pleasureble and acceptable to God. At that, Cain grew hot with anger and killed his brother Abel. He was under a curse. Can you see that clearly? Let us read the Golden Text.

GOLDEN TEXT: ROMANS 15:27

If you Gentiles have been made sharers in this kingdom with full spiritual blessings, then, you are to use your material wealth in the service of God.
Yester-years, the juju priest, sorcerers, witchdoctors, ate your money, etc. and there was no solution found for your problems and difficulties. Now that you have found a lasting solution to your problems in life, why not rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and grateful to God? With your material wealth, why not show appreciation to God for his grace? The only way to do this to pay tithe regularly to God.

Brethren, I want to assure you once and for all that there is no other Church on the surface of this earth, or ANY HUMAN BEING WHO HAS THE LEGAL RIGHT OR RIGHT TO OBTAIN TITHE FROM YOU, WHETHER HE IS A PASTOR, A REVEREND, BISHOP, OR ARCH-BISHOP, OR A MINISTER OF RELIGION. THE ONLY ONE TO WHOM TITHE MUST BE PAID IS THE ALMIGHTY GOD. YOUR PAYMENT OF TITHE IS COMPARED TO YOUR KNOCKING OF YOUR HEAD ON THE GROUND. YOU MUST NOT DO OBEISSANCE TO ANY HUMAN BEING, NO MATTER WHAT POSITION HE OCCUPIES, BUT ONLY TO THE ALMIGHTY GOD ALONE WHOM YOU MUST WORSHIP, DO OBEISANCE TO HIM AND GIVE HIM EXCLUSIVE DEVOTION.

Brethren He will not take you further. Those who have ears to hear, let them hear. May God bless His Holy Words. Amen.
