Erisco Foods Limited has said that it will invest about $250million in food processing plants in Sokoto State.

The Chairman Erisco Foods, Chief Eric Umeofia made the disclosure yesterday in Lagos when Sokoto State Governor,
Aminu Tambuwa paid a facility visit to his company’s plant in Oregun. According to him, about 6,000 employment is targeted in one and a half years to boost social wellbeing of the people of the state.

He said Erisco will partner with the local farmers to increase their capacity for national economic growth.
Umeofia who lamented Nigerian banks selective lending attitude said funding is difficult but the company will strive
within its capacity to expand investment to Sokoto state with the commitment of the state governor to make the state investment friendly. He urged the government to fight against smuggling to encourage local manufacturers.

The governor while answering questions from Journalists said his government will implement a buy your own policy to encourage patronage of local products. He said his proud of Erisco Foods having started his business in Sokoto state in the 80s.

The visit he said is to reestablish that relationship and appreciate the company. The governor said the state is working and wooing entrepreneurs to invest in areas of competitive advantage in Sokoto state such as Agro allied, Solid minerals, live stock and others.
