I agree with you. The public decides what is "good" music,  and if it sells, then it is "good".  The rest na sour grapes.

There are lots of non-commercial rappers that do well,

Methodman
Redman
The roots
Scarface
MOP
etc

These acts do well without having to compromise, and without resorting to gimmicks, 

Now as far as marketing goes,  a label will only throw money at something if they see that the public is responding to it. It is in their best interest to do so.  It is hardly ever bias against an artist or any other nonsense that artists like to spew when their sh!t does not sell.  The label will put the song out and if the public responds, they start pushing it.

I can't really speak about the Naija scene though cause I've been away for too long,  unfortunately for me

And why does it mean that Mode is selling out if he was on the song? If Mode switches his flow to 100% pidgin then he HAS sold out because he is always going on about doing 'real hip hop' which presumably is not done in pidgin.

Everybody knows that 'wild like a baboon under the moon' is a Rugged line. The baboontunde jibe was made to hit back at Mode for the 'deathblow' diss.

Also the timbaland a.k.a 'Mode is broke' jibe seems to be the one that affects Mode fans the most so Rugged fans keep using it to great effect.

I don't think he is broke ( why should he be?) but its a way of getting back at him i guess
