Walking your dog for the first time won't be a fun experience as you might think if things are not done properly , so here are basic rules and things you should know before ever attempting to walk your dog.
1. Get the dog used to the leach: before you ever attempt to walk your dog make sure your dog is already used to the chain or leach by walking the dog around the house or your area , cos you dont want your dog to be dragging you all over the town or refusing to walk when you pull
2. Socialise your dog: Before taking your dog for a walk make sure you have socialised the dog a little bit , get the dog used to outside environment, that Is once in a while always take your dog outside your gate and just make it watch , else taking your dog out for the first time Might mean danger cos she will be do protective and would see everyone as an enemy and everything will look so strange as she will get distracted by the noice of moving cars etc
3. Teach your dog how to walk behind you: This will save you a lot of dragging and pulling , because if your dog is in front and you are at the back you will find your self running throughout the walk, so get your dog to learn how to walk by your side or behind you and not in front of you.
4. Teach your dog basic commands: this will save you a lot of headache , imagine after walking a distance and you see someone you know and you need to slow down and you tell your dog stop , or sit and the dog kept dragging you , trust me it won't be a funny experience , so make sure you teach your dog basic commands like sit , stop etc
5. Help your dog overcome it fears : Help your dog overcome it fears by teaching it and getting it used to things it wouldn't have done, dogs are generally scared of heights , make sure you Teach your dog how to jump , for example while walking your dog you will realise that there are lots of gutters you will need to jump , so its always better you let it get used to this practise so that you don't start carrying you dog. if its a puppy it might be easy carrying and if its not you might have to turn back or take longer route
6. Don't feed or give drink before going on a walk: Make sure you feed you dog at least 2 hours before going on a walk this is to prevent any form of running stomach or issues. And don't let her drink lots of water before taking her for a walk .never walk an hungry dog ever !!!
7. Make sure your leach and chain is intact : the last thing you want is your dog unleaching itself due to bad collar , chain or leach , so make sure they are perfectly intact before taking her for a walk
8. Learn to respect others : it can be annoying when people sees you and they stat running , so don't take that opportunity for granted anytime you see a scared person , pause and let the person pass , your dogs are smart, they watch what you do. You don't wanna create a monster That attacks everyone
9. Teach your dog the calm language : the calm language is the language you use when your dog is going crazy, lets say you are walking your dog and it sees another dog or something and starts barking , make sure you have trained her or get her used to a word to make her stop. Eg Stop, but my favourite is its ok,
10: Never Let your dog attack anyone : when walking your dog. Make sure you are 100% focused on the dog you don't want casualties ,

how do i make my dog walk behind me? plz help. my dog always drag me. it discourages me to take a walk with him cos after the walk i always get a red palm.

This is something that should have been corrected when the dog was young , by simply just making sure it sticks close to u walk u walk her , now that it's grown it can still be corrected though , through positive reinforcement and other means I will address it soon

Hi first of all, restrain from taking her out on a walk for now, u need to train your dog how to walk beside you, this is something you will have to do at home in your compound where there is less distraction , place a leach on its neck and gradually make her walk by your side. If she does that , give her a treat, make sure the dog is keeping eye contact , once she walks by your side , give her a treat , keep repeating this step , and if u are going to buy something next door or next street , take her along and make sure she is walking by your side and reward the dog at interval , with this she will get her eyes glued at you, use the treat to get her wjere you want her to be with the treat in your hand she will never go ahead of you. So keep practising this behaviour over and over again , and gradually withdraw the treat else u don't want a situation where when there is no treat she doesn't obeu you .
Keep doing this Till you wontt have to use treats to make her walk by your side .


So once she master this. Get a short leach and try by taking her within your street and watch her. Avoid using longer leaches. With shorter leaches its easy to pull with longer ones its easy for her to pull you. So when she is trying to go where u don't want, or doing something else or sniffing around , pull Her back gently ,

But once in a while u can also allow her do her thing but at your own command not when it wants
