5 Die, 4 Injured In Multiple Accident In Otta by Heazy2015(m): 6:18am On Nov 19, 2015
ABOUT five people died while four others sustained injuries
of various degrees in multiple accident, which occurred at
the old Tollgate in Otta, Ogun State in the early hours of
Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses said the first accident, which involved seven
vehicles, occurred at about 12-midnight, while the second
one, which involved five vehicles happened at about 6a.m.
in front of Oando filling station at the border between
Ogun and Lagos states.
Although Mr. Ramoni Adekunle, a motorist, who witnessed
the midnight crash said: “ I counted 18 dead bodies,” an
official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC),
Otta, Leye Adegboyega, countered him. He told Daily Sun
that only five bodies were recovered with four persons
injured.
Adegboyega, an Assistant Corps Commander, insisted that
four victims died on the spot, while another died on the
way to the hospital. The FRSC boss, who said he was on
ground with his men for the rescue operation alleged that
street urchins disturbed their operations but commended
the effort of Sango Area Commander for instructing the Di
visional Police Officer (DPO) in the area to draft his men to
the scene of the crash for rescue operation to continue.
While attributing the first crash to alleged brake failure of
the truck coming from Sango end to Lagos, Adegboyega
said the cause of the second accident was yet to be ascer
tained.
But, our reporter, who was involved in the second accident,
said an articulated vehicle with registration, Lagos KRD 216
XB, conveying gravel to Lagos, ran into three cars and a
commercial bus in which he was travelling. The worst hit
cars were a Toyota car with registration, Lagos KTU 824 DS,
whose owner, Mr. Idowu Ganiyu, escaped death by the
whiskers.
Ganiyu’s car had run into the bus in which our reporter was
travelling and the impact forced the bus to head towards
the canal where two vehicles, earlier involved in the acci
dent, crashed. However, the bus was prevented from jump
ing into the canal by one of the buses marked Oyo BDJ 413
XA, believed to be conveying yam tubers to Lagos.

Rip to the dead. Don't drink and drive and don't drive and drink.
Safety should be everyone's priority.
