that serves MTN better. Took them years before they could even get capitalised in Nigeria. For a very long while they were just doing business in our country and impacting South African's economy.

............ in another news Federal Government Scholars in China are going hungry as a result of unpaid scholarship allowances. Since January 2015, and still counting....
Nigerian Government, what is happening?. Do we wait till these scholars start protesting, so they would be tagged unpatriotic or better still an embarrassment to the nation? Nobody cares of what they are currently undergoing in trying to make ends meet. cry cry cry. This is very unfair!!!

Thief! Thief salivating for MTN trillion fine. 95% of the Governors are rulers, they act as if they are gods. What are they doing with the monthly security vote.

seconded,if PMB will fight corruption, why not reduce his 500 mill security vote and over 100 mill security votes of these governors everymonth.Pure Legal way of looting our resources.Am even highly disappointed in PMB coz he doesn't say anything about it.

NTM abi MTN , must wake up and realize they are not the only network in Nigeria like they think at back of their mind.

How come other networks escaped such fine, if not for MTN's contempt for laid down principles and willful disobedience?
They should just face the music, those that run that company are too greedy to know where to draw the line.

I pity their poor staff who might be at the receiving end for the downsizing this might trigger.

Is this really good for Nigeria in terms of attracting foreign investors?... Even if we know Nigeria needs the money by all means, why should our leaders openly make it seem like we are extorting MTN to feed ourselved?.. I think this is a thoughtless move.

Rule is rule, MTN should face the consequences and this is a clear message to investor coming to Nigeria you have to obey the rules and regulation. If you can do the time don't do the crime

I'm totally not against MTN being punished accordingly for their flagrant disregard for regulations, but I'm not comfortable with the governors revelling over this fine in public thereby giving an impression that Nigeria is just dishonestly out to make money from MTN. We already have newspapers in SA reporting that Nigeria wants to finance a bogus 2016 budget by milking MTN.

I do not feel pity for MTN, it was a business decision on their part.

They knew going in, that the fine for not disconnecting unregistered subscribers was $1000/per subscriber, they deliberately kept those subscribers connected, so they can continue to generate revenues from them.

They felt, they could get away with it and chances are, had it been GEJ was still the President, NCC might have let it slip and that was MTN's calculation...but with the new President and his proclamation against corruption and NCC not have felt the President very well to know his directions and to also curry favor from the President by doing some..."notice us Mr. President, we are working too, helping to generate money plus enforcing the letter of the law here"..lay down the law.

NCC motivation might be wrong, but the end result was perfect...NCC didn't sneak up on MTN and bent the rule. We can all argue that, the fines are too high, which is a valid conversation, but you cannot commit an offense and at sentencing argue with the Judge that, your sentencing is too hash, when the Judge is merely prescribing what is written in the law book as punishment for your offense.

At the end of the day, MTN should accept their fault and negotiate the fine down and NCC should also negotiate in good faith with a view to lowering it...MTN made a lot of 'illegal profits' during their non compliance period, so they have some ill accrued money with which to begin the payment.
