Akwa Ibom continues it march to greatness as the Government of the day, ably piloted by Mr. Udom Emmanuel, builds sustainably on the legacy of the last administration by strengthening infrastructural development as a prelude to optimal health care delivery.
In a move to ensure efficiency of the Ibom International Specialist Hospital, the Executive Governor of the State, commissioned 40 World-class Residential Apartments built by the State Government to accommodate Medical Specialists deployed from across the world to man the ultra-modern Hospital in Uyo.

The apartments built as a mini-estate and sitting on a land area of 46,622 square metres within the serene Shelter Afrique Housing Estate come in three distinct building designs and comprise a total of 140 rooms. The fully furnished housing units are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as a water treatment plant, a fire hydrant system as well as stand-by power generating plants. It also has a supermarket, a standard swimming pool and a security post.

This housing project is aimed at creating conducive living and working conditions for expatriate Staff of the Hospital to ensure committed and efficient service delivery, will go a long way to eliminate capital flight (of indigenous manpower as well as the millions of hard currency frittered away on medical care overseas) and make Akwa Ibom State a “destination for Medical Tourism in Africa” by maximizing the world-class medical services available at the Hospital.
More importantly, it will guarantee the achievement of prompt and efficient healthcare delivery to Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians at large, as the health of its teeming populace ranks very highly on the Government’s priority.

The commissioning ceremony witnessed a large turnout of dignitaries. Amongst these were the Wife of the Governor, Executive Council members, the immediate past Governor of the State, the political class, senior citizens of the state, women and youths who all turned out colourfully to show their support and belief in the gradual actualization of the vision of Mr. Udom Emmanuel – a man the Special Duties Commissioner referred to as “the right man, at the right time” in the State.
