nidentified gunmen at the weekend kidnapped a ten-year-old girl Avwesuoghene Ishegba, daughter of the former scribe of Ethiope East Local Government Council in Eku, Delta State, while on her way home from her mother’s shop.

It was reliably gathered that the gunmen ambushed the teenage girl after the attempt to kidnap her father failed last Tuesday.

The victim’s father, Mr. Duke Ishegbe, told our correspondent on telephone that “the rest of my family members on Sunday had gone to church; only she said she will be going to the shop to sell for her mother, and when it was getting to night fall, she closed the shop and was coming home alone despite plea from neighbours who told her to wait for her guardian to come and accompany her home since the road to our house was very narrow. She refused.

“After their attack on my life by this same gunmen failed, and around Okhurekpo in Eku community the gunmen swooped on her and took her away in their car.”

Confirming the incident, the police public relations officer in the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, said the police were on top of the situation, noting that the victim’s abductors had demanded N10 million ransom from her parents.

She also disclosed that the police had arrested 13 suspected kidnappers in the last three months at different communities in the state.
