The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Dec. 5 for the conduct of supplementary election to conclude the governorship poll in Kogi held on Saturday.

A statement by the commission in Abuja on Tuesday said that the exercise would be conducted in the 91 polling units where voting was cancelled on Saturday due to some irregularities.

According to the statement signed by INEC’s Secretary, Mrs Augusta Ogakwu, the commission will also allow the All Progressives Congress (APC) to replace its governorship candidate, the late Prince Abubakar Audu, in the election,

“The commission, has after due consideration of the circumstances, decided to conclude the process by conducting election in the 91 affected polling units as announced by the returning officer.

“it also decided to allow the APC to fill the vacancy created by the death of its candidate.

“Accordingly, notice is hereby given to all the 22 political parties participating in the Kogi governorship election that supplementary election in the 91 affected polling units shall hold on Dec. 5,’’ the commission said. (NAN)

A party can only replace its candidate only before the start of election proper! That is why the constitution stands!
If there is a void the election should be cancelled and a new date announced by the power of the courts!
The statement from inec is robbery on the electorate

The INEC is a disappointment to moral justice for saying a thing like this. This is because;

1. When an individual votes, he/she votes for a candidate and not the party.
2. Voting for a candidate means voting for the candidates personality.
3. It will be considered injustice at optimum height if the votes which was casted for late prince ABUBAKAR AUDU (i.e his personality) of The APC is transferred to another man.

Finally, if INEC proves that it is the party that votes are being casted for, then it's good enough to conduct a general election before the primaries. i.e after the general election then any party that emerges the winner will then present any candidate of their choice.

By the virtue of the points above , if a new primary election should be carried out by the APC, then a new general election must also be repeated.
