I am 20 yrs old, and currently seeking admission into the university, I wrote JAMB this year and PUTME and admission is not forth coming. I have met some many JAMBites that told me they spent 3-4 years at home waiting to enter the university. I worked as a marketer for a tech teaching institute but I had to give that up (or I was forced to give that up my guardians).
I have faith and I am working towards getting admission by next year, but now I have learned not to put all my efforts and time in preparing for JAMB, during the day time I read for JAMB, and around 1-4:30am I am awake practicing/learning PHP & MYSQL. The question is : is this right? some many of my friends and older ones have told me to relent and focus squarely on JAMB and get admission then start the computer ish. But I don't see reason in this, programming is too beautiful a temptation to avoid. Advice please...

I think you are doing the right thing honestly. Keep trying to seek admission to university because a B.S. in Comp Engineering, Comp Sci, Electrical Eng, etc. will take you far. While you are trying to get admitted, keep trying to ameliorate your programming skills.

First things first. Study hard and tight for your jamb and post-utme. You can always become the best web developer the world has ever seen, but you won't always be at the appropriate age for university education. For your web developer skills to to be taken serious, you need a good degree, atleast in this part of the world.
