It boils down to personal preference really. I'm more of an everything kind of guy. The hardware is practically the same. It's the operating systems that are different.

There are expensive Windows PCs out there, so I wouldn't really say that's an issue. The issue is variety in which Windows computers offer in numerous amounts.

If you are a tech guy/girl you could opt for Linux (which is very similar to OS X on Mac computers (which is UNIX)).

In regards to iOS vs. Android (iOS is the name of the mobile operating system created by Apple and is used on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod) it boils down to personal preference.

iOS is a far more controlled environment than Android. What I mean by this is that Apple implements stricter policies in what you can do with their devices and make it neigh impossible to download and install apps from 3rd party vendors (meaning that the application must be in the Apple app store for you to download it.) If you are interested in downloading 3rd party applications, then you would have to "jailbreak" your device which also voids Apples warranty.

Other than that, Android and iOS are pretty much similar in their design concept. The difference being that Android has a plethora of skins on top of its OS which include touchwiz for Samsung, sense UI for HTC, and a few others to boot for various manufacturers (each manufacturer has their own custom UI embedded within the Android Operating System).

If you want a pure Android experience, then you could go with a Nexus device. Google's current premier Android smartphone is the Nexus 6P which is far cheaper than it's Apple equivalent but has similar (if not better) functionality.
