President Buhari has said the December 31st deadline he gave the military to destroy Boko Haram can be modified if their are reasons to do so. Buhari said this through his Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2015 annual conference of the Chief of Army Staff in Dutse, Jigawa state today December 7th.


"Let me emphasise that the timeframe given should serve as a guide and if exigencies of multiple operations across the country requires modification, the Federal Government will not hesitate to do so in order to address the flash points that are emerging in parts of the country. The Nigerian Army must, therefore, develop strategies to address the current challenges facing the country and ensure total elimination of the insurgents.".
On August 13th, President Buhari while swearing in the new service chiefs, charged them to defeat the insurgents before the end of the year.

I beg to disagree with you on this. Targets in and of themselves are not sacrosanct so d issue of one knowing that it is not feasible to meet such target when setting them is incongruous!

Targets are meant to give the soldiers something to shoot for so that by the end of December we can have empirical data to measure performance of our Military!

Yes, the targets can be modified not because we are not confident of our military capability to meet the December deadline but because we are dealing with a ruthless terror group who will do anything to spite us after the December deadline. They might even hibernate this month while planning something deadly for early next year.
