What kind of birds are egbe and agwu -nkwor?they are expert chick snatchers, appearing from nowhere like stealth jet fighter and snatching chicks right in front of defensive hens trying by all means to protect her chicks, all but in vain. |

Re: Birds Of Prey In Igbo Land by asha80(m): 9:03pm On Jun 01, 2009 |
platinumnk: You will find some in nothern and middle belt in nigeria although not in the same population as that of east african countries.Maintainance of huge animal parks are better done in there than in nigeria. |

The Egbe and the Agu nkwo are not anywhere near the endangered status. Na how you go take catch them now. . . abi u wan karry gun shoot that thing for air? The agu nkwo (Hawk) thing is almost as small as ''nwa nza'' when the feathers are plucked but it tastes better than chicken |
Re: Birds Of Prey In Igbo Land by redsun(m): 9:50pm On Jun 01, 2009 |
Agwu-nkwor is not that very small,it can comfortably snatch a sizeable chick. |

For asha, where does lekeleke migrate from?and what are they called in english?they look like flamingos, their sighting always signal the beginning of dry season. |
Re: Birds Of Prey In Igbo Land by asha80(m): 10:19pm On Jun 01, 2009 |
They are called cattle egret(ichekeleke nyem mbo ocha )I think they migrate from the north and always seem to follow herds of cows eating insects disturbed from the movements of the cows. |

I remember when we had chickens and there was an unusual one we saw one day walking around with them, we paid no notice, until we heard the cry of the mother hen. We had then realised that the extra chicken was not a chicken at all, but a bird of prey, it had been acting as one of the chickens and had managed to make off with one of her chicks. Ah well we would have eaten the chick when it was older anyway. Is this an Egbe? |

In uk,there are red kites, they were almost shot to extinction by oyinbos that likes game hunting, until they declared protected species. They kill for fun, unlike africans that kills for food. Nigeria kites are more of greyish black in colour. |
