Bail should be free but Like other things in Nigeria, It's not the way it should be.



Also the money collected are more like Guarantee or surety to make sure that the suspect does not Jump bail
Most times the money is deposited with the courts as a security and when the prosecutor cannot prove the Guilt of the accused, or they withdraw all charges. The funds deposited as security will be returned to the depositor who may be the suspect or the surety as the accused is discharged and /or acquitted.
