Main rival of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki in the June 9th election, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan yesterday broke his silence on the floor.
Lawan (APC, Yobe North) was the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Senate Presidency. The candidature of Lawan, a third term Senator was advanced by the Unity Forum.

Saraki, however emerged as the Senate President when Lawan and his camp members were at the International Conference Centre (ICC) for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Since Saraki's emergence, Lawan has been keeping mum on the floor of the Red Chamber but he broke his silence during a debate on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) submitted by President Buhari on Tuesday.

Our correspondent reports that Lawan spoke for eight minutes with his colleagues listening attentively.
Lawan said it was miraculous that the country survived the 2015 elections despite the tension, " It is a miracle that the country survived it".
He said the 38 dollars per barrel benchmark template used by the Federal Government for the 2016 budget was realistic.
He urged Nigerians to support President Buhari to deliver what he tagged as, " the goodies of change".
" This is a new dawn for Nigeria. This is a budget for the emancipation of Nigerians who are denied good things in the last 16 years. Under this budget, our pupils will get free meals, " he said.
