Unknown gunmen have abducted Mr. Ifiok Umanah, the elder brother to Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniekan Umanah. According to eyewitnesses, Umanah was abducted along Hospital Road in Abak by unknown gunmen who shot sporadically into the air to scare away passersby before taken away their target. When contacted, the commissioner, who was not in the state when the incident happened, said the kidnappers are yet to establish contact with members of the family. He explained that security agencies are working hard to rescue his brother. He said: “There is no contact yet. You know I’m not around, I just came in. Security operatives are working hard to ensure his rescue.” The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, could not be reached for comments on the incident.
