I hope Siasia gets rod of 80% of this team before the Olympics, we can't take players who need penalties to win games.

It should be a cause for worry that only the U17 teams know how to score in open play....apart from them, we have to get penalties and then struggle to not concede. It was even Osimhen that got this penalty

Now my confidence has re-awakened like I said initially. The gold is ours to win at the finals on Saturday and only 5 players will make it to Rio among this current team while foreign professionals will take the center stage. kelechi iheanacho, chidiebere nwakali, (mancity,) Alex iwobi (Asenal Fc,) Isaace success (granada Fc), ndidi wilfred, moses Simon (Ghent) Musa yahaya (totenham hotspurs) Musa Muhammed, Godwin saviour, not forgetting solid home based Kingsley sokari. And of course the 3 overage players that will make up d final 23man team. Another gold beckoning in RIO. Naija is blessed. The land is green

Algeria break 35-year jinx to reach Olympics

A 2-0 win over South Africa on Wednesday at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium in Dakar was enough for Algeria to qualify for the Olympics for the first time in 35 years.

‘Les Fennecs’ only participation was in 1980 in Moscow, Russia and striker Oussama Darfalou and Mohammed Benkhemassa scored in either half to book a place at next year’s multisport event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil alongside Nigeria.

Algeria will face Nigeria in Saturday’s final in a repeat of their earlier meeting at the group phase which ended barren.

It was a well deserving win for Algeria who made the best of their positive start with an early goal after eight minutes. A long ball from Riyad Keniche, found Darfalou, who beat an offside trap before lobbying over South African goalie Jody February for the opener.

Whilst South Africa laboured in search of their feet, the North Africans almost doubled the lead nine minutes later when Benkhemassa forced a superb save from February this time with a shot at the edge of the penalty area.

Minutes later, Gift Motupa missed a perfect chance to draw level, with a wayward connection from Abbubaker Mobara’s cross from the right.

Five minutes into the second half, Benkhemassa doubled the lead with a power-laden shot following a clearance from a corner, leaving February with no option.

South Africa coach Owen da Gama introduced Phakamani Mahlambi and Dumsani Zuma midway and the introduction saw an improvement in their play and forcing the Algerian backline to do some work.

However, Algeria survived several scares from the South African attack to hold on to victory and confirm their place at next year’s multisport event.

Fact about

Algerias’ greatest football players

1. Mustapha Rabah Madjer (born 15 December 1958)
is an Algerian former footballer who played as a striker, and a manager.

He reached stardom as a Porto player during the 1980s, being widely regarded as one of the best Algerian football players of all time. With that club he won nine major titles during his six-year spell, including three national championships and the 1987 European Cup.
One of the most prolific Algerian internationals in number of games and goals, Madjer played in two World Cups with his national team, helping it to its first ever participation in 1982. Having taken up coaching immediately after retiring, he managed several clubs, and also had several spells with the Algerian team.
He was the tormentor in-chief when Algeria defeated Nigeria 5-1 in Algeria '90.

2.
Lakhdar Belloumi (born 29 December 1958) is a former Algerian football player and manager.

He is widely considered as the best Algerian player of all time and one of the best players in Africa. He is said to have invented the "Blind Pass".[1] He is awarded the 4th best African player of the century. He holds the record as the most capped Algerian player (with 147 national caps) and he is the fourth best goalscorer of the Algeria team in all time (with 28 goals) after Abdelhafid Tasfaout (the best goalscorer with 35 goals).
Belloumi's goal against reigning European champions West Germany earned Algeria a stunning 2–1 victory in their World Cup debut in Spain '82.

Algerian foot ball has witnessed two Golden Generation

1. The Golden Generation of 1980–1990

Espaina 1982 World Cup:

Algeria caused one of the great World Cup upsets on the first day of the 1982 World Cup Tournament with a 2–1 victory over the reigning European champions, West Germany.

1990 African Cup of Nations

In 1990, Algeria hosted the 1990 African Cup of Nations for the first time and where strongly considered to win the competition. drawn In Group A, the Algerians started the tournament by beating Nigeria 5–1, with doubles by Djamel Menad and Rabah Madjer and a goal by Djamel Amani. After a great start with a convincing victory against the Nigerians, they then beat Côte d'Ivoire 3–0, with goals by Djamel Menad, Tahar Cherif El Ouazzani, and Cherif Oudjani. The last game of the group, Algeria beat Egypt 2–0, with goals by Djamel Amani and Moussa Saib. After a perfect start with three wins in as many games, Algeria beat Senegal 2–1 in the semi finals after Djamel Menad and Djamel Amani scored in front of 85,000 fans in the Stade 5 Juillet 1962 to reach the final for the second time in history. In the final against Nigeria, in front of 105,302 fans in the same stadium, Cherif Oudjani, in the 38th minute, enabled Algeria to win the African Nations Cup for the first time. Djamel Menad was crowned top scorer of the competition with four goals

The Dark Years 1990–2008

2. The second golden generation 2014–present

Algeria gained all the respect in the world and where once more considered as perhaps the best team in Africa, with young and exiting players such as Yacine Brahimi, Sofiane Feghouli, Islam Slimani and more, Algeria perhaps has their second golden generation that might even be better than the 1980s generation with a lot of their current squad playing in some of Europe's best clubs, such as Valencia CF, Inter Milan, FC Porto and more. This very talented generation will be looking to qualify to consecutive world cups, and most importantly win the African cup of nations once again, a competition that they have only won once in 1990.

the current Generation is lead by BBC African player of the year

The defence need to be work upon;
We were saved courtesy of GOD and our keeper;
Our keeper saved a penalty!
Can you imagine a defender of ours close to the ball,as d ball approach goalkicker, yet a player of the opponent about six yards 4rm d back catch up with him,and extended his leg to d ball,d keeper also not calculative enough held his leg,Alas! A penalty!
If not 4 d keeper brilliance d penalty could have cost us!

There were many blunders from the defenders.
Like they ate heavy food just b4 coming to d pitch.
They couldn't run.
Very bad!
Siasia,shud wake up!
This aren't a team fah!
