Nigerian Senate Orders 109 Suvs For Lawmakers. by Treash(m): 3:06pm On Dec 13, 2015
The leadership of the Senate has
placed orders for the purchase of 109
Sport Utility Vehicles commonly called
jeeps in the Nigerian parlance, for its
members to carry out their oversight
functions.

It has also allegedly turned down a
request by some chairmen of the 65
committees recently inaugurated by
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to
change their preferred vehicles which
hitherto had been Prado Jeeps
already to Land Cruisers.
Investigations on Saturday showed
that each of the vehicles would cost
N16m.
They were said to have been ordered
before the constitution of the 65
committees.

Tagged “operational vehicles”, the
SUVs, according to a member of the
management staff, who could not be
quoted because of his status, would
be delivered to each of the lawmakers
in the first quarter of next year.

The vehicles, he said would be
formally handed over to the senators
after their four-year tenure after
paying 30 percent of the cost.
The source said, “The jeeps are not
official vehicles because the senators,
in line with the Federal Government
policy on monetisation, would be paid
money for vehicles, accommodation
and other things, so they are not
entitled to official vehicles and
accommodation.

“They, however, needed operational
vehicles to carry out their oversight
functions. Each of the 109 senators is
either a chairman or vice-chairman of
the senate committees, hence all of
them would have a jeep each”

It was, however, learnt that some of
the committee chairmen, recently met
with the leadership of the Senate and
requested that their own Prado jeep
be upgraded to Land Cruiser Jeeps.

The law permits you to be profligate but your conscience should know better.

As the nation toils and the effect of dwindlingeconomic revenue begins to bite you display your callousness, your discord is deafening.

An analysis of the fat figure reveals that 16 million would pay the minimum wage of close to 900 workers for a single month, or 74 workers for a year.

You could always get an SUV, many of you already own a fleet.

You could always get one for half the budget, in fact you could get a deal for a third of the budget. But that's not how you roll.

It's all understood.

Enjoy your tenure.
