Am just sad. I've tried all i could to make my cd rom read dvd plates to no avail. Is just not working. But it reads normal cd plates. note. What i use is dvd rewritable. |

Ebuks: If your drive is CD OR CDRW, it wont read DVD ROM it can only read CD. If it is DVD OR DVDRW then it can read both DVD AND CD. if it is the latter, then the lens may be affected. You may need to buy another one. |

otoyin:@ OP, that should answer your question. and judging from your subject, it appears you have a CD ROM drive (hope i'm wrong). if that's the case, then you will need to get a DVD ROM drive (at least to be able to read DVDs) or a dual format (DVD+ & DVD-) DVDRW drive if you intend to copy data onto DVDs. |

Whether it is DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM or even DVD-GOAT sef, so far as it is no more reading plates means it is tyme for a replacement! |

not necessarily true because OP stated that it can read CDs. if he has a CD ROM or CD RW drive (which i'm betting it is) and trying to read a DVD media from it, obviously it's not going work. in that case, it's no fault of the optical drive but OP's. on the other hand, if he in fact has a DVD ROM or DVD RW drive and still can't read a DVD media (which sound strange to me cause one would think it wouldn't be able to read any media period), i'd try a firmware update first before opting for a replacement. |
