These are the amazing and medicinal facts about tomatoes you probably didn't know or haven't heard about.

1. Tomatoes were at first considered to be poisonous due to the adverse effects on those who ate it : this belief was eradicated in 1820 when people actually found out it is not the tomatoes that is causing the death but the pewter plates on which the tomatoes were served . Tomatoes are high in acid, which makes them potentially hazardous when they come in contact with heavy metals and pewter.

2. Tomato can be used to clear pimples, acnes and blemishes on the face : a tomato's acidity is powerful enough to clear up pimples and blemishes on the face.( steps at source)



3.Tomatoes are best eaten raw : to get the best out of your tomatoes, eat it raw

4. China is the world largest producer of tomatoes

5.The first variety of tomatoes were yellow and small

6.There are 10,000 varieties of tomatoes in the world

7. There was no mention of tomatoes in the bible or any of Shakespeare's works -

8 There was actually an argument on whether tomatoes should be categorized as fruits or vegetables :however in 1893 , the us supreme court ruled that tomatoes should be categorized as vegetables not fruits But still to this day, some people still argue with concrete facts that tomato is a fruit and not a vegetable(poll at source)
