10 Canada
There are over 28 million people who speak English in Canada. English is the first language learned at home and in school by most Canadians, even though the country has a large community of French speakers as well. It is also used by the government and in the educational system as most subjects are taught in English.

9 Egypt
Despite being an Arabic country, there are over 28 million speakers of English in Egypt. English is used in official matters though it is a foreign language. In fact, even adverts on billboards are in English. Some road plates are bilingual – in both English and Arabic. A few of them are in French as well. It is also used in the curriculum. Most of the people involved in business and education are also fluent in English. The number of English speakers is also growing in academia, where students are becoming more and more accustomed to the English language.

8 Bangladesh
Just like Egypt, which is an Arabic country, Bangladesh also uses English as its de-facto co-official language. It is used in trade, medium, education and even government functions. Mastery of the English language is a requirement for employment in sectors demanding high qualifications like banking and IT. 24% of companies require a basic level of English, 38% an intermediate level, and 38% a good level of English. Graduates with higher levels of proficiency in English find jobs faster in private companies. There are over 29 million speakers of English in Bangladesh.

7 Germany
Isn’t German the leading language in Germany? Interestingly enough, there are over 51 million English speakers in Germany and 272,504 of them use it as their first tongue. English has managed to penetrate the media as well as some famous German traditions. This is why it is very easy for Germans to learn it. It is compulsory for people to learn German before entering Germany. English is extensively used in education, law and in the media.

6 The Philippines
There are over 52 million English speakers in the Philippines and about 36,000 use it as a first language. This is as a result of colonization where English and education were introduced in the Philippines. It is the main language in education. It is also used in the media and during social and cultural activities in government functions. Rules and court verdicts are written in English. English is used in higher education, in the media, business, and religious affairs. Many Filipinos write and speak in flowing English, though pronunciation and accent may differ.

5 United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is the birthplace of the English Language. It currently has over 59 million speakers of English with 58,100,000 using it as their first language. English is the official language and over 95% of the population are monolingual English speakers. The language is the main one in the educational system, media, law, military and important government and non-government functions. UK English is simple and delicate and the speakers ensure that their pronunciation and accent are according to the language’s actual requirements. They believe that English is part of their culture and traditions.

4 Nigeria
Nigeria takes position 4 with 79 million speakers of the English language. 4 million people use it as their first language. It is also the most developed language and is used to study scientific and engineering courses. It is used as the official language as well as the language of instruction in schools. It is used in all government transactions.

3 Pakistan
Pakistan is not only known for production of tasty rice, but also for having a considerable number of English speakers, to tunes of over 99 million. All speakers use it as a second language. Pakistan English however differs in pronunciation, terminology, spelling, grammar and other features as well. About 49% of the entire population is able to communicate in English. English is the official language and is used in government functions, business, and law. It is taught in school, and is also the language of instruction.

2 India
India is a business hub thus Indians interact with many people from around the world. English is the default language for teaching and learning as well as administration. There are over 128 million English speakers in India with 226,449 using it as their first language. Hindi is the official language in India nowadays, while English is the assistant official language.

1 United States
English is spoken by the entire U.S. population of over 298 million people. Of these almost 300 million people, 255,505,953 use it as a first language. It is estimated than more that 95% of Americans speak English fluently, despite the large numbers of immigrants that the United States accommodates every year.

I think this is based of the number of speakers and not the percentage cuz I don't think India and Pakistan deserve a place in the 1st 10
