The Lagos State Police Command says relatives of six women whose remains were found in a canal in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, have yet to show up to identify them. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, on Sunday told our correspondent that the case was being investigated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Department of Criminal Investigations, Yaba. PUNCH Metro learnt that the decomposing bodies of the women were found last week Tuesday in a canal on Akele Street, Anibaba area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. Our correspondent gathered that the bodies were taken away by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit on Wednesday. It was gathered that the corpses had been deposited in a public morgue for an autopsy. A resident, who gave his name only as Jamiu, said the women were suspected to have been attacked and killed by kidnappers, who thereafter dumped them in the canal. He said, “In the last 6 months, we have had several cases of attempted kidnap, which were reported to the police. The government officials who came urged all of us to be more vigilant.” The PPRO said on Sunday that the police were
still awaiting the relatives of the women to show up to assist with investigations into their death. He said, “Up till now, no one has showed up to identify any of the six women. The case is under investigation at the SDCI, and the DCP is directly in charge of it. As we speak, no one has told the police anything about the women. “The police have yet to make any arrest. The autopsy report is still being awaited to ascertain their cause of death.” The Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Adeola Salako, said, “I have confirmed from the director of the SEHMU. The women were picked up around 10.30am on Wednesday. “Their corpses have been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary.”
