Reasons Why You Should Own A Diesel Car by Duke007(m): 11:00am On Dec 15, 2015
With the current fuel scarcity being experienced across the nation and it's attendant effects on our lives, work and economy. It wouldn't be out of place to switch over to diesel powered automobile. I saw one at Ikeja yesterday and was excited at the ease it got its tank filled up with diesel fuel. Enumerated below are the reasons why every Nigerian should own a diesel powered car.
*They have more useful life than Petrol engines
*They have better fuel economy
*No risk of fire accident with the fuel
*The fuel is easy to store with minimal risk unlike Petrol which is very volatile
*Diesel engines runs cooler compared to a Petrol engines
*Diesel engines requires less servicing
*Above all, You don't have to waste your precious time at Petrol station trying to fill up your tank because it is always available. Diesel no dey scare for naija. Go get your own diesel car today.

Diesel is good to own , but the present price of fuel makes it undesirable, 87 -100 as against 130-155 for diesel.
The so called economy of diesel favor bigger vehicles like trucks as against small cars.
Its only economical if you are driving on the free way in a hold up the consumption is on the high side.

The initial cost is also high so is the availability as only companies with fleet are able to buy diesel which is mostly available as pick ups (hardly see it in vehicles)

Fewer diesel mechanics on the road too, the repairs can be costly as specialist are few and prefer to work on trucks.

Diesel is dirty makes a lot of noise and pollutes the environment, the hype about its cleanliness was exposed in the case of VW global. grin
The used a cheat software to exaggerate the mpg of diesel consumptions on their cars.

Diesel cars dont accelerate quick like petrol cars as they are more suitable for pulling loads than racing.

Electric cars would be preferable to diesel as the world is going green.

Diesel engine runs cooler because the engine provides higher torque at low prices which implies that you can operate the engine slower with a taller gear. It has less engine friction and more efficient combustion process.

How much do you buy Petrol now. Petrol sells for 120 while diesel sells for 110 naira. In the present Nigeria, diesel is cheap and readily available. It burns slower in comparison to Petrol. What this implies is that at any given journey you would be using lesser quantity of diesel compared to petrol.

Diesel technology is well advanced and at such diesel car are environmentally friendly.
The only component that differentiates it from a petrol engine is the fuel injection pump which is easy to maintain. You may not even touch for a couple of years depending on your maintenance culture.

From my personal experience, I took a risk and bought a 2006 Passat car with 2.0 diesel engine.
In the last 3 months, it is the best thing that could happen to me.
A 70 litre tank filled with diesel will do average of 850km. On the average, it is takes me 2 solid weeks to refuel since I commute daily in town with it. It is responsive and the torque is high for the model. The engine also doesn't heat up easily like petrol engine after 500km of driving non stop.
At least am happy to have options of diesel and petrol engines in my life.
The engine does not throw up faults easily like petrol. It's more rugged. And mechanics are available though few.
We should start thinking out of the box in Nigeria.

I do not like cars that emits excessive smokes no matter how new the car might be.....

You and I knows the car that does that correct......? Just incase you are thinking about it, it's Diesel Cars cheesy

I own a W202 C200 CDI. Travelled to and fro Ilorin yesterday with about 40litres diesel. My car presently emits black smoke on hard acceleration and might be consuming more fuel than usual.
However, it very difficult getting good mechanics and at times spares to work on modern diesel engines. The mechanics charges are quite high or outrageous in some case.
Most issues they got is related to bad diesel damaging the injector nozzles. Imagine a mechanic charging 70k to fix an engine that is sold 70k. I have resolve to start DIY for fixes on nozzles for the car and will acquire the tools soon. With bad nozzles or nozzle rail sensor it very difficult to start, upon starting you can travel anywhere.

I have seen diesel versions of BMW X6, kia sportage, land rover LR3/LR4, etc. I bet you wont be able to differentiate between the diesel and petrol options of these cars. Diesel engines have developed beyond Danfo and old truck models

What you actually need is a diesel additive to treat the diesel so it doesn't damage your nozzles.

sorry bro. I am kind of a good car freak and I live in a nation where good cars are driven despite the fact that the owners has not finished paying for it wink . driving an awful cars is like a crime here. so there is no Danfo or much old trucks.....

If I see a diesel cars on the road, I will know. no matter how new or wonderful the car looks, it still uses diesel bro. the smoke is always more infact much more than the car that uses petrol...cars that uses petrol, you can hardly see the smoke except if it wasn't well serviced. but a diesel car.......?

Thats fine, its your opinion. Diesel has its pros, lots of them and they are making them better and better. Infact some of the newer models may take more than the naked eye to see any smoke.

It's ok if you held unto your belief about the newer Diesel cars. However,You appear to not only lack understanding of modern Diesel engines, you obviously lack understanding of EFI systems as well.

The newer Peugeot HDI (Diesel) engines have better Co2 emissions than the petrol ones,,especially the ones with DPF, etc.

First, you need to start learning what a car that emits black smoke from exhaust means.

Where is the diesel? Is it the dirty diesel fuel that is destroying the trucks that you are talking about? How many Mack trucks do you see on the road today to the extent that you will be advised to buy the truck spec without electronic brainbox because it can withstand our dirty sulfur rich adulterated diesel. Generator owners, truck owners are crying and one is recommending diesel powered cars. Whether the fuel is available, until we know the cetane level of the fuel, we cannot vouch for it. I have an X6 Diesel that I am looking for the fuel pump for the past 3 months. Ladipo and Aspamda says None, so what happens to an owner in an emergency?

Man,
The X series BMW parts are bit scares and expensive in Nigeria...
i know a colleague here using audi A3 2000 Model and another one using MB E300 TURBO DIESEL...
they always smile when riding...
the issue is with your BMW scares part not the diesel....
and for your information mark truck are not strong as Daf or the almighty ACTROS MACHINE

my thought

Merry Xmas and happy new year in advance

.. It is not the parts that are scarce, it is what destroyed the fuel line that matters. Why is Mack brand not a strong truck? Why is it strong in the USA and weak in Nigeria? How come it can run for 1m milesin the USA while those bought brand new from Lanre Shittu will pack up at 150k miles? It is the diesel that we are talking about. Your friends that are smiling might be suffering and smiling as they are stuck with a car beyond their control. Diesel cars are good but without efficient fuel, in lastma monitor voice, they are not good to go. Merry Christmas and a wonderful new and blissful year for us all

From my research....New model of mark trucks you Premium Diesel.....what makes actcros and other older mark sustain the bad diesel?
i think there is liability question with new model trucks
i mean it bro they're enjoying it..because the A3 guy as no option as you said but the other guy with MB does.
Every car as is own pro and con.....
The man with the turbo diesel travel every time with his baby...only change shocks and front lower bushing for the past 8month and have almost replace all the suspension and axle of my toyota camry..because of the road from Muguno to maiduguri

If u dilute 1lt of engine oil to about 4lt of kerosine u get a product that is similar to diesel in texture....this product can be use to run ur diesel engine. Diesel has some lubricating properties hence acts as a lubricant to the injection system(injector rotor nd d nozzles) in diesel engines, therefore if u adolterate diesel it loses its lub properties, and damages the injection system, and the produces a coars sound when running.

Are you for real?... Engine oil in fuel tank in a CDI engine. The nozzles are very sensitive to ordinary diesel talkless of engine oil.
What's the reason for adding engine oil. Thanks

It is neither here nor there.
2 stroke oil has been added to diesel for long to lubricate and prolong some parts. But users must be very careful about this with modern diesel engines.

U are very correct as one need to b carefull about it. All d diesel in nija market are adolterated thats why u see different colours...some bluish other brownish. Pure diesel is colourless.
Re: Reasons Why You Should Own A Diesel Car by iamLeo(m): 12:06am On Dec 27, 2015
In nija refineries there are other crude oil products non econimic important, the only way to get rid of them is to blend it into AGO, fuel oil(hpfo), is also added to mentain proper viscosity...since diesel engines can combust these fuels without causing any immediate harm to the engines, but on the long run it will ruin the injection system. When the product gets to the marketer dem too go do dia own mix b4 it gets to d consumer.
