Personally I am of the opinion that any country can make quality products, BUT when it comes to exported items, some manufaturers make sub-standard products and have no regulatory body check their products' quality.

Last week, GM sold its Hummer brand to a Chinese auto-maker;

1. My personal experience is that when it comes to China manufacturing for exports, its more of business than making quality and durable goods.
2. Chinese government basically encourages this outflow (exports) of sub-standard goods by not having any strict Industry Standard enforcement.

The question now is;

What is the future for this brand; would you invest your money in buying a Hummer at this time knowing that parts will solely be from China??

Will that brand Hummer still be as durable as it should be - as designed to be, knowing that the from-the-scratch parts will be made in and from China

Will you buy a "MADE IN CHINA" HUMMER1 or HUMMER2 or HUMMER3??

I suspect that the Chinese will not try to re-invent the proverbial wheel. They may start out using the manufacturing plants in the USA and rehire existing personnel for salaries that are more in line with profitability. They can restructure the company without the baggage of Unions and excessively high hourly wages, without moving the whole operation to China.

You raised good points.

Cheers,
J

Thats a very cool theory, and its likely to work ONLY if the US govt. allows them run their operations at those terms. The US government have a way of being in control and still appear left out.
