A Grub2 bootloader flaw has been discovered and it allows you break into any Linux machine with ease. If you press the backspace button 28 times, the bootloader allows you bypass password protection on the device and access the device. How embarrassing...


Researchers from the Cyber-security group at Universitat Politecnica de Valencia recently the vulnerability with the bootloader used by most Linux distributions. The bootloader is normally used to initiate the Linux system at start up and it uses a password management system to protect boot entries. Without the GRUB password protection, an attacker can boot a system from a live USB key and switch the operating system to gain access to the machine's hard drives.
