Anambra Warns Against Enviromental Offenses. by Nobody: 12:33pm On Dec 24, 2015
The Anambra State government through the office of the special Adviser
to Gov. Willie Obiano on Environment, Town planning and urban
development, Hon Arc Amaechi Ekume

has warned the people living in the
state against committing environmental offenses that lead to the
degradation of the environment and damages to lives and properties.
According to him, ‘the people of ndi Anambra who go about dumping
refuse in drains, and refuse to pay sanitation levy, evacuate soils
where they shouldn’t, cut down trees were they shouldn’t without
planting any one, as well as those who build on water channels or
flood plains leading to water causing havoc are hereby warned.
He stated that the State Government, under Gov. Willie Obiano was
combating the problem of erosion head on, and taking steps to repair
what has been damaged, as can be seen by the tackling of the erosion
which had nearly cut the Onitsha Enugu Express at Nkpor into two, a
case in which the State Government has mobilized contractors to the
site to deal with the menace.
Arc Ekume, who is also the MD/CEO of Tracas Nigeria Ltd, also revealed
that the problem of refuse disposal and collection is being taken care
off, effectively by the State, as can be witnessed in several cities
of the State like Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi. Refuse dumps have been
provided and the era of dumping refuse on the ground is gone. Refuse
is being evacuated as fast as they are being generated.
He recalled how the State was able to sensitize the people of the
Riverline Areas on the dangers of flooding which took place earlier in
the year, and how camps were set up in the State for those affected.
As a result, they were minimal damages to lives and property in the
State.
