Former Senate chief whip, Senator Rowland Owie, has appealed to Presi­dent Muhammadu Buhari to douse the tension in the coun­try caused by the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, by directing the Department of State Services to release him.
He also urged the President to dialogue with the group, and discountenance allegations that IPOB is a militant organization.
His words: “I urge President Buhari to release Kanu, the leader of the IPOB now and dialogue with them. The Presi­dent should not listen to palace jesters who are telling him that they are militants like Boko Haram. They are not. While the Boko Haram leadership is not visible, the IPOB leadership is visible. Buhari should act now. A Bini parable says the King that folds his hands while his palace is burning ends up being a tenant.
“Late former President Umaru Yar’Adua dialogued with Niger Delta militants and peace was achieved. Former President Goodluck Jonathan tried to do that with Boko Ha­ram but he was frustrated by the facelessness of its leadership. So I don’t see anything wrong if President Buhari dialogues with this group of people so as to find lasting solution to the problem.”
Owie further said: “I wish to remind President Muhammadu Buhari that every elected Presi­dent in Nigeria becomes a pris­oner of palace jesters around him and becomes isolated from realities outside Aso Rock. President Buhari should open the prison door now and come out and face the realities. Yes as John Adams said, ‘Power al­ways thinks it has great soul and vast views beyond the compre­hension of the weak and that is doing God’s laws.’
It would be recalled that few weeks ago, massive street protests by members of IPOB had locked-down the South East and other major cities in the South South states with significant Igbo population, for several days until Igbo elders stepped in to sue for peace. This resulted in the suspension of the street protests while legal ef­forts were intensified to secure the release of Kanu through the due process of law, although the DSS frustrated and circum­vented court orders granting the IPOB leader bail.

Rowland Owie should go and sit down somwhere. Who takes this failure serious anyway? What have you done for your people when you were a senator? Release who? A traitor? He should not even involve the Binis into this rubbish. I trust my fellow Bini people. Foolish man. Nnamdi Kanu should be hanged or even made to face firing squad. His supporters and sympathizers should be given a minimum of nothing less than 10years imprisonment each.
