Nigerians have unbridled passion for foreign football, but some fanatics are more dangerous than others. Only recently, a fan of the English soccer giant, Manchester United FC, crushed to death his fellow countrymen who were followers of FC Barcelona of Spain after the 2009 edition of the EUFA Champion League Final decided in Rome. The culprit named Daniel Chibuzor, a fan of Man U, drove a car into a crowd of FC Barcelona fans at Ogbo, near Ahoada in Rivers State. Four persons were killed instantly while more than 20 others were injured seriously.
After the Rome encounter, which saw his darling club humiliated by 2 goals to nil, Mr Chibuzor was said to have sighted a group of FC Barcelona supporters in wild jubilation. Angered by the spectacle, he made a U-turn and rammed the car into the crowd. He admitted that the killing was a deliberate action. Are football fanatics psychopaths too?
