I remember those days we still buy data plan at high cost, but to be candid, there has been a great improvement in the costs incurred on data plan nowadays.

This can be traced to the ligh level of competition between the Network providers

==>Instant Surf – 24 hour validity, 10MB data @ =N=100.
==>One Week – 7 day validity, 50MB data @ =N=400.

They still have a long way to go. Until there is enough cheap data that I won't need to pay 15k for dstv subscription then I would take them serious.

Did you notice how ALL the networks avoided 1GB plans or made it prohibitive if available in 2011?

Competition is necessary in these markets. It was the same way PSB (Per Second Billing) was a no-no until Glo came in. Ditto DSTV; they presently claim that pay-per-view is impossible simply because they have no solid competition. Let competitors up their game and you'll see instant changes. Etisalat came into the market late but had to make data plans cheaper.

For networks, it's either they crashed these prices or they succumbed to the threats of cheats + CDMA/ISp companies who had cheaper modems/WiFi services (all these =lost revenue for telcos).

Nigerian telcos ape after each other, so once one of them makes 1GB #100, trust the others to do same. I foresee further crash in prices, then what will be the next offering is who has the best services. e.g. you have some Airtel customers saying they will never buy its data plans even if it is 10GB for #200. This is because of complaints of 'data zapping'.

QoS (Quality of Service) still remains key in Nigeria by these telcos. NCC has not really helped much in enjoying our value-for-money.

We still have a long way to go. I hope with the power of the social media where no information is hidden and people air experiences publicly, these companies will be forced to play fair. #PeoplePower
