In our last post on materials found on the
skeleton we talked about Bone. Today I shall talk
on cartilage Cartilage÷ cartilage tissues are found
in the skeletons of complex vertebrates. It
consists of living cells called CHONDROBLASTS,
PROTEIN FIBRES and CARBOHYDRATE. Cartilage is
a very flexible and tough tissue with a great
tensile strength. Cartilage also acts as a shock
absorber by cushioning the effect of bones
moving against bones when we move. It forms
the entire skeletal system of sharks and rays.
Types of cartilage in mammals÷ there are three
types such are Hyaline cartilage, Fibro-cartilage
and elastic cartilage The Hyaline cartilage make
up the rings which support the trachea and
bronchi and keep them open. It also supports the
