Nigerians are so backward. This stuff has been going on since 2005! Every popular Anti-virus software has blocked this type of virus long time ago.
You're a f*ool if you don't have an updated anti-virus on your system or device.

Nope they won't because it's a not a virus it's an app written to encrypt your files, really i won't worry because it would take dumb user to install this app, am on linux and this can never be on my system because It's something that will take my conscious thinking before i can install meaning i'd analyze it before installing so fear not. NodeJS is supposed to give app access to your system its a runtime environment

Just get bitdefender antivirus (World number one) and add your vital folders under the "anti ransom " module. Bitdefender prevents ransomware because the protection starts when your system boots.

Good Info but Ransomware isnt new in Nigeria....i'm happy someone pointed outthe fact that the virus has been around for a long while....

Truth is i guess we only just started getting info on it in these parts a few years back...it was mainly targeted at corporate bodies who they know will be willing to part with some funds....

Great tips as mentioned will be to always ensure you have your anti-virus updated but also ensure you invest in proven brands.....

I am too. You just need to know how to go about it in a discreet manner because the seller would mostly like that. And seems you do not know the varieties of stuffs you can get off E-bay or GumTree.. All you need is the app from playstore or someone that has it and you are good to go.

So the mal ware is more like an OS-napper (kidnapper). Holds you at ransom To make payment on bit coin which is untraceable. That's really creative. Gates or Zukerburg should employ whoever made that stuff.

What you can do is:
Have a backup strategy in place.
Do not access .zip attachments in e-mails from unknown senders.
Do not click links in e-mails from unknown senders.
If you can see the actual link, copy and test it using this website.
Avoid questionable websites and never click links in unknown web page.
